...candidates in California primaries? The problem they're trying to address is that Dems and Repubs run against each other in primaries, so too many Dems could cause two Repubs to win the primary. This was in the NYT this a.m. Sorry, I don't have a link. Maybe someone else does?

(25,904 posts)that tends to dilute the vote a lot, and if the other party has no primary at all, it does not bode well for the multi-candidate party come the general election. I've seen that play out more than once.
I don't live in California, but if the top two vote getters in the primary are the two who run in the general election, yeah, it's truly dumb of Democrats to have too many of them in the primary.

(9,970 posts)...there are so many candidates! Several have crazy statements... I can see much potential for mischief... however, I believe Diane Feinstein is secure.

(13,783 posts)...I first posted I wasn't sure what I thought. A good solid part of me wanted us to do everything to win seats. But another part of me was worrying about hierarchy and the establishment keeping new blood out. I think California made a mistake when they set up their primary system this way for just that reason. It's risky to let new faces try to win a primary.
