Shania Twain backtracking

I'm just wondering why Shania Twain would have to backtrack on the statements she made. Wouldn't her country music fans love what she said, and in fact probably buy even more of her music because of what she said??

Many of her fans probably don't know that because they make assumptions about who is American and who is not.

And there are liberal country music fans all over the place, even in the most unlikeliest of places.
