If you are mentally healthy enough to plan such an event and then ask for a lawyer, you are competent to stand trial . If the state has a death penalty,go for it.

first, being able to plan an event like this is not in any way a sign of mental health.

second, they don't all ask for lawyers, they get one anyway.

third, asking for a lawyer isn't a sign of mental health either.

not having "mental health" doesn't mean you can't function at all.

finally, the death penalty is useless and counterproductive and a recipe for corruption and tyranny no matter who becomes its victim.

it solves nothing that life in prison or mental institution doesn't solve.

In your scenario, the shooter's family and friends would still be dealing with the suicide.
