Fwiw to those who haven't seen them in person, dramatically broad-brimmed hats have been high daytime style for very wealthy women for decades. They of course protect exquisite complexions from the sun but are also a class marker.

Tue Apr 24, 2018, 12:30 PM
Apr 2018

everyone who was everyone came to her memorial service (including the Clintons - the Obamas weren't there, but they came to her funeral the next day).

Dr. Height was known for her hats. She NEVER, EVER left her house without one. And her hats were always beyond fabulous. So, just about every woman who attended her memorial service, including Hillary, wore a hat in tribute to her. And it was beautiful.

Donna Brazile and Marian Wright Edelman were among those who spoke at the memorial. When Edelman got up to speak, her hat looked to be very similar to the one Donna Brazile was wearing when she spoke. When she started her remarks, Edelman admitted that she had forgotten to wear a hat, so she borrowed Donna's and would give it back to her when she finished.

That's hat game.

I love hats. I love women in hats. I especially love black women in hats.

And I love Melania's hat

I TOLD YOU HILLARY WORE A HAT!

when you're a black woman who was admitted to Barnard at 16 in 1928 and then un-admitted when they found out you were "colored" and you go on to devote your life to public service, and when you die at 98, the Vice President, Speaker of the House, Senate Majority Leader, Attorney General, and the former and current First Ladies are in the front row of your funeral, and the President of the United States weeps openly for you, you did it right.

After months of begging her father to let his heir pitch in, Elizabeth—then an 18-year-old princess—joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. Known as Second Subaltern Elizabeth Windsor, she donned a pair of coveralls and trained in London as a mechanic and military truck driver. The queen remains the only female member of the royal family to have entered the armed forces and is the only living head of state who served in World War II.

One would think that ignoring a topic we care little for is initially (as well as painfully) obvious. Maybe however, it's actually a complex concept-- full of twists, turns, pitfalls and danger.

The important thing though, is we care so little as to publicly advertise how little we care.

And because she chooses to model naked?

That's news to me on a progressive site.

Yeah. Donald Trump is a fucking nightmare of a president for about a million reasons. That Melania wears a hat is not one of those problems. And bashing women because of what they wear just because their husband is horrible is just bullshit. We need to be better than that. I saw Republicans do that to Michelle Obama and nobody here seemed to like it (I know, I know, Barak wasn't the nightmare that Trump is, but you get the point. We can't take any moral high ground if we wallow in the same sty.)

Michael Kors could have made the jacket edges line up together.

The hat debacle seems a little silly to me. The woman wears clothes she likes and her tastes run to the more expensive duds. We won’t ever catch her in a Wal-Mart tee shirt and jeans. If she wants to wear a large, wide brimmed hat, who cares? As noted, the Queen of England has a reputation for wearing hats on almost every public appearance. No one skewers the old dowager for her attire, do they? Melania has PLENTY of things she can be dogged about. More than her share for sure. I think it is reaching a bit too far to start a Twitter war over a silly (albeit expensive) hat.
