First, if they really feared for their lives so as to point lethal weapons, they would not be standing that close.

Second, since they don't really fear for their lives, they should not be pointing lethal weapons. Period.

Three, I would be extremely surprised if there was any valid reason to have that kind of force on scene confronting unarmed unmasked citizen protestors.

Four, leadership from the top down has not provided proper training to avoid the mistakes in the first three points. Not proper training to the "troops" (word used advisedly), not proper training for the "platoon" leader on scene, not proper training for their commanders.

Or maybe that particular police force is riddled with fascist thugs.

I noticed the same thing. The fucking moron was going to see the wall prototypes and when he was in town over a year ago his supporters were violent and tried to start fights. That is why on this visit they separated the pro moron idiots from the protesters into separate locations but half of the cult/base stood across from our anti-wall group anyway. There were the city police and sheriffs standing between the two groups bit They all faced the anti wall protester. From my past experience at an impeachment protest the sheriffs stood around and watched the Proud Boys (neo Nazis) try to disrupt the speakers and start fights with us. Finally a speaker (a city councilman) at the protest called the authorities and the sheriffs finally separated them from us. Finally, at the wall protest a bunch of SWAT guys like you see in the OP photo came and they all stood in rows facing us instead of the violent pro wall people! What is up with that shit?!?!
