Betty Bowers' remark after Trump Tower Baku Azerbaijan fire

?s=19

BB: Pity the building doesn't have sprinklers, like, I'm told, they have at the Ritz in Moscow. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/us-news/fire-trump-tower-new-york-12442212 …

Tweet has picture of smoke rising from building with caption, "Trump Tower on fire in Azerbaijan's capital Baku weeks after NY ..."

& caught up in the Deutsche Bank scandal (money laundering, unsavory people involved), is a bewilderment & laughing stock by the locals because it was being built out in nowhere.

Invanka was in charge of it, if that's the one I'm thinking of.

I don't know who they thought was ever going to stay there or how they would make money from it. I suspect there was something fishy going on there.

5. I think it's involved in an investigation. It was never finished? Fire...suspicious.

Heavily insured, maybe? On a huge business loss? How convenient.

It is amazing that every member of this family is not in prison yet.

11. Yeah, Azerbaijan is hardly a big vacay destination.

But the 'insurance' payment for the fire loss is a perfect opportunity to launder money.

13. It does, however, host a city centre Formula One Grand Prix - taking place this very weekend

So I can see it could be seen as a speculative hotel opportunity. However, I seem to remember looking up the location of the Trump hotel and the course, and it was really badly situated - not within sight of the course, and in a pretty ugly newer section of the city, rather than the old centre which does look OK.

15. I saw this in some documentary. Yes, it was nowhere around where people would stay there.

It's a luxury hotel, with luxury condos on the top floor. It's not near the hub of activity (to the extent there is activity in the area at all), so there's almost no chance of hordes of people flocking to stay there, much less LIVE there.

And it's hard to get to. I forget what it's around...some middle class houses or some middle class small business area? The con men evicted the current tenants in apartments that had been there, paying them well under market price, then bulldozed them down, and built this strange business venture thing.

Deutsche Bank may have had some sort of funding or account relation to it. Duetsche Bank has been under investigation for money laundering (or a subsidiary of Duetsche Bank), partly in connection w/this "business venture." As usual, it's complicated. I don't remember the details.
