It is hard to say what I have just said. Think of what the military is protecting with someone like Trump in office and if his and GOP policies were to actually be realized. You would be in a country for the wealthy run by the wealthy for their benefit entirely.
All your service would be for is to protect their interests. And the way the GOP wants it if you do get wounded you would be on your own. Hell you might be expected to work for your benefits even if 100% disabled. The GOP honors nothing except raw totalitarian power.
In fact the way I see it the public really does not care about veterans. The push to privatize the VA and throw veterans and retirees to the wolves seems to get little rise out of the public. I sense no public outrage. Just a yawn and apathy. Veterans organizations and veterans groups are against such a move but still support Republicans and most likely Trump anyway.
Such a small part of the public serves in the military that returning vets are pretty much invisible when they return. Many war vets are still underemployed and unemployed and a number are homeless. And to make matters worse there are active soldiers on duty on food stamps because their base pay is so inadequate. I guess the GOP would like them to be in a work programs as well.
Things are just so twisted right now. What is real and what is not, what is truth and what is not and what are facts and what are not is negotiable depending on your political disposition.
As we fight the war on terror, the threats to this country are more from within than without.

(652 posts)I told my kids that if they join the military they might go to war and get injured or killed. It isn't worth it. As far as I am concerned, the youth of our country are canon fodder ... because the economically privileged kids don't go to war all that often. Our Commander in Chief is a prime example of that.

WAR is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the
