forget recent history, like how tough trump and trumpies act when they are calling out others, then how flaky they get when on the receiving end. It wasn't a singular focus and there was a good bit of praise for a lot of other jokes. The takeaway I got was that the dinner itself is problematic and has been for years (true) and that these are not normal times and it shouldn't have happened.

I came away from the routine thinking that Wolfe basically played the role of Trump at the dinner and called out everyone in his style.

When Stephen Colbert provided the after-dinner entertainment at the 2006 White House Correspondents' Dinner, he spoke in the character of the clueless right-wing pundit he portrayed on his Comedy Central show. In my opinion, Colbert's well developed material and finely honed delivery contained more than enough clever set ups, witty twists and humorous punch lines to earn his performance high marks.
