This GOP idea keeps coming up that Social Security and Medicare are unaffordable program that must be reformed (deformed) in various venues. Of course they forget that the programs were paid for and continue to be paid for.
So how many fewer workers will make it to 70 by the time they qualify? Also how are these workers going to make it until then when they cannot work any longer.?

There are legends who work until they are in their 70s and even beyond, but most employers want a pretty face, strong muscles, a healthy back and someone who can sit, stand, pick up, carry, etc. for 40 hours a week as well as someone with an excellent memory.
We begin to deteriorate before 70, at least in the eyes of employers. That is if our memories and minds are still intact at all.
So, this is an issue that employers need to be honest with themselves about.
I remember the woman, not yet 70 by a long shot, whose hearing was not what it once had been. The boss fired her on a pretext and gloated about it to his inner circle.
That's the story. The Republicans just want more homeless people on our streets. They live in wealthy enclaves and avoid the sight of the tents and toiletless living under freeway bridges as much as they can. But that is the real alternative to Social Security and Medicare.

Tent communities along the Nimitz as one heads into Honolulu and Waikiki. These are people with jobs, some not. People litterally sleeping on the sidewalks, their feet onto the busy streets.
Signs at the Ala Moana Park sayong NO CAMPING . The cost of housing and low wages keep many out. Even paradise has its problems.

(50,560 posts)The Republicans would be overjoyed to get rid of those programs entirely and just let the now-adult kids have the parents live in their spare bedrooms.
