"Here's the thing, he's not asking you to contribute more to pay down the deficit, or to invest in our kids' education. He's asking you to pay more so that people like him can get a tax cut," Obama said at a campaign event in Mansfield, Ohio (today).
"We do not need more tax cuts for folks who are already doing well," Obama said. "We need tax cuts for working families."
" A new report by the Tax Policy Center) found that if Governor Romney wants to keep his word and pay for his plan, then he'd have to cut tax breaks that middle-class families depend on," Obama said, listing mortgage deductions and health care deductions as examples. "That means the average middle-class family with children would be hit with a tax increase of more than $2,000."
"Folks making more than $3 million, the top one-tenth of one percent, would get a tax cut of a quarter of a million a year. Think about that," Obama said.

(23,018 posts)Republicans never saw this coming. They were not prepared to fight against a tax cut or reducing the deficit.

(7,817 posts)why it's so hard for dem leaders in general to make these easy, powerful cases on just about every issue. You can't find an issue area where the dems couldn't make just as strong of a case....based on truth, facts, history, logic and a well-constructed sentence.
If they can do that, the GOP would be in a world of hurt up and down the election tickets.

(20,018 posts)because I'd say that a "conservitive" is someone too narrow-minded to take their own side in an election.

(12,272 posts)The way they see it, they come from a blood-line of people who were kings, leaders, aristocrats and the like and because of that, they are special and deserve to continue live off of us and our work.
And Romney is actually the sort of rich guy who believes he is wealthy because god loves him more, no kidding.

(14,176 posts)This is the quote and snippet that FAUX News may lead with.
Their MO is increasingly to take small sentences out of context and repeat ie. "you didn't build it yourself"
I remember a gem back during the election I believe. Hannity unashamedly played a clip of Obama saying that "taxes are scheduled to go up substantially, next year, for everybody."
.....only Hannity left off the beginning of Obama's sentence where he said, "Under the tax plan passed by the last administration..."
Here it is on YouTube:
So I wouldn't count on his message getting out any time soon. In fact it may be used to twist it around to say the opposite.
I really don't know what kinds of "journalists" can sleep at night that work for an organization like FAUX News.

(57,204 posts)of the budget. They need to take a little bit of self responsibility and pay for the wars that do them the most good. Taxes is a great place to start. I really don't think the President will loose votes by allowing the tax breaks for the 1% to expire.
Over the cliff.
