Because like most people, I've moved past the 2016 candidates being involved in much of anything these days.

focused on the here and now and those that could actually fill the position.

Democrats control the state Assembly.

I get the impression that it's either the state assembly (house) or the combined houses that can appoint a replacement.

Democrats, led by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, have the majority in a joint session and will hold sway over who gets the position.
