might be one I heard sometime back. Perhaps it is too simplistic, however it is worth discussion. It is obvious now that a two state solution is not going to happen. Therefore a one state solution under Israel could be the only answer. What has given rise to groups like Hamas is the abject poverty and hopelessness of the Palestinian people. If all were citizens or had the potential to become citizens of one country, it seems that it would provide a more positive environment for all. So much time has been spent trying to create a 2 state solution that for decades it has only made things worse for the Palestinian people. Maybe if Israel invested in housing and infrastructure in Gaza and hired Palestinians to build the economy there, it might help create a more trusting relationship between them. Why can't the great religions of the world, Judaism, Christianity and Islam live in peace and brotherhood??? Is that not the underlying message of all the great teachers??

(16,646 posts)You haven't addressed the right of return at all.
You don't address the status of Jerusalem.
There is the issue of the right of Israel to exist at all.
You would need some sort of secular government.
And you would need the Palestinian people to NOT attack Israel people or forces at all.
They didn't get here overnight and it will take a long time to unwind it all.

(12,676 posts)They'll also tell you that each side views the other side as a monster attempting to annihilate the other peoples and wipe them off the face of the earth.
Totally ignoring that there are an equal number of extremists and profiteers on both sides are inflaming the issue for their own benefits.
All for religious identity. All for grift and disaster capitalism.

(3,163 posts)Is that it would mean the end of a "Jewish state," since Palestinians are a significant majority, greatly outnumbering Jews in Israel.
