Why doesn't he just step down and give his Speakership to Devin Nunes?
He is obviously a little weasel that is not up to the job.

(11,800 posts)when this shit finally blows up. Feels as if this administration has finally travelled the length of the bathtub and is starting to finally circle the drain. When this thing blows, it's going to be, if I can quote some douche bag, "it's gonna be the biggest scandal the world has ever seen." Smart money is on Nunes going down too. Not only is his POTUS ambition over. He'll be remembered forever by historians and, hence generations.

(2,502 posts)I hope it snatches up a few more congress critters with him. The ones who carry out tRump's orders everyday. And Ryan is a coward. Boener wasn't much of a speaker, but damn.

(58,785 posts)out some hard-core conservatives in the primary stage. I'd guess this should be making the extremist Freedom Caucus nervous, of course. Yet, reportedly the Freedom Caucus is still expecting to benefit from losing fewer extremist seats in the midterms than Ryan's "ruling wing" does.
Ryan has been adamant he has no desire or plans to resign the Speakership before his scheduled January departure, but some Republicans think hed like to leave earlier. They say the Wisconsin Republican is trapped on Capitol Hill because his hand-picked successor, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), cant secure the 218 votes he needs to be elected Speaker in a floor vote.
(No kidding he'd like to leave earlier. 9 months serving lame duck over this mess?)
On the Freedom Caucus side,
"There must be a real race for Speaker of the House," the letter reads. "Now. No backroom deals. A real race, starting this spring, to make every incumbent and candidate commit on the record, as a campaign issue, whether they'll vote to save the swamp or drain it."
