I think John Goodman, and the rest of the cast, could carry a show without her.
They could set the time a year after her death, so it wouldn't be all about mourning her. Maybe John could be thinking about dating again. And the cause of death could be related to her opioid addition.

(32,084 posts)The other cast members were what made the show. Let Dan write a novel about winning the lottery after having his wife permanently committed to a psychiatric hospital, or something like that.

(4,516 posts)they knew what they were signing up for. They knew who she was. I lost all respect for them and Wanda Sykes. Wanda earned a *little* back for immediatly resigning. NO more reboots. The head has been cut off, now bury it at the crossroad and move on.

(9,267 posts)Didn't she develop the original show, characters etc.? Would hate to see her making $$ anyway. But yes this is a great idea. Show Dan dating again, have him marry a liberal.

Roseanne is hired as WH press secretary to replace Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who has been promoted to Chief of Staff because John Kelly's lies weren't quite facile enough. However, after Trump is impeached and Pence becomes president, Roseanne is forced out of her job because Mother is afraid Pence will be too erotically tempted by her. She ends up working for Infowars.

(58,724 posts)I am pretty sure they can't do the show without her. I also wouldn't think the actors would accede to that, given the history.

(54,013 posts)America's writers have not run out of ideas. They can do another show.
As much as I love that cast (and as much as I respected the original show's core message & themes), the soul of free enterprise is that sometimes business ventures fail. I can't think of a more deserving cause for such a failure.
pnwmom
(108,978 posts)If they changed the names and the setting, I don't know how she could own that.

(54,013 posts)Even if the network (miraculously) won the suit, they'd be tied up for years and spend tens of millions of dollars defending a bone-headed move to hold onto a failing show (only minus their key star), and probably piss off every single writer in Hollywood.
It's not going to happen. That's just not how Hollywood works.

deserves its place in history as a groundbreaking show from a time long ago..just as All in the Family was...but does not deserve to be rebooted..
I never watched the new one...rarely the old one ..

(22,129 posts)similar family show remotely close to R.
Enough is enough. It's over with, move on, and I wish all of the other actors and those involved w/ the show best wishes in the future (except R...she had her chance and blew it, and she has only herself to blame, no one else).
If anything, all of these people probably could get onto the talk shows and wax on endlessly about the mutterings and idiotic statements of R.

(13,081 posts)We could call it All in the Family.
Or we could just watch reruns of All in the Family. The issues and arguments havent changed that much, just the conservatives sanity, dignity, and devotion to a civil society.

(90,692 posts)Call the show "Dan." The shock at the sudden death of the all-consuming matriarch. Weeping and wisecracking over the grave. A massive wake, with all the neighbors bringing macaroni salad and jello salad and fried chicken. The new normal as the family learns to pull together again while squabbling as usual.
Hey, I'd watch a show called "Dan Connor."

(7,188 posts)Roseanne executive producers Bruce Helford and Tom Werner. Helford was showrunner.
Casey-Warner Company is Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner. They produced original show. (also produced Cosby if you can believe that)
Jax Media is owned by Imagine Entertainment - principals of which Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.
If anything were to happen with "The Connors" need to get them onboard. I believe Roseanne Barr had producer or exec producer credit so she may need to approve as well.
ABC doesn't own show.
