It's discouraging what we decent, open minded, good hearted people do to ourselves.

Roseanne Barr compares a black woman to an ape, and says that a family of Holocaust survivors are actually Nazi sympathizers, and what does the right do? They take to the stockades to defend her.

Sam Bee calls Ivanka, another woman, by an unpleasant name, and what do we do? Tie ourselves up into knots about how horribly, horribly bad she was.

We have got to get over ourselves. We have got to quit stepping on our own dicks (oops, sorry, I may have offended someone). This is part of why the assholes win. They don't agonize over someone having a potty mouth.

The stereotype of a liberal is someone who is so open-minded that he won't even take his own side in an argument.

and it seemed sincere. Roseanne, in contrast, has been whining for a couple of days about how unfairly she's been treated. Her initial apology was a non-apology-apology that she tried to blame on Ambien so you know damn well she's not sorry and really does hold nasty, racist views (as is clear from what she's said in the past). The situations are not the same.

She used the word. What's done is done. She shouldn't have apologized. Ted Nugent called Hillary the same word, never apologized, and got invited to the White House to boot.

See, this is why the assholes win while we're busy clutching our pearls and reaching for the smelling salts.

That's a word that nobody should use, and she was wrong for doing so. The fact that Ted Nugent didn't apologize is relevant only to the fact that Samantha Bee is a decent person and Ted Nugent is not. If nobody apologized for saying that word, that means people will accept its use, and they shouldn't.

For me, the "C-word" on its own doesn't automatically send me running for the smelling salts - it totally depends on the context.

In the case of Samantha Bee's use of it, it doesn't offend me at all. My only objection is that it gave the RW ammunition for their false equivalency shit, which is always unfortunate.

To me it means "fucking idiot", and can be used to describe men.

Had this all been in Scotland and all parties were Scottish then no one would have batted an eyelid at the use of that particular word.

Mind you, I think a way that Americans could get free beer in Scotland is to yell out in a bar that "Donald Trump's is a fucking c..t". But Fucktrumpets will not like that. But when you have a failed president who spews gobshite on Twitter daily... I think Americans abroad are to be pitied, to have that orange cretin represent America.

like "twat," which will also get you in trouble here. I'm not at all sure how the difference in those words' meanings and level of acceptability between here and Britain came about.

Seems to me that what decent, open minded, good hearted people would do is denounce gross vulgarity and leave it at that. That is, if being "decent," "open minded," and "good hearted" is considered a positive thing, why would one want to "get over" that? Unless "winning" -- whatever that means -- is the only thing that matters.

No thanks. But, hey, that's just me.

But the assumption that Democrats led the charge is false and part of the problem. The gop lie about every god damn thing. Stop blaming Democrats.
