By LOUIS NELSON 06/01/2018 07:42 AM EDT
Conservative filmmaker Dinesh DSouza said Friday that President Donald Trump told him the 2014 conviction for which he was pardoned a day earlier was fishy and that he had been screwed.
Trump announced Thursday that he had pardoned DSouza, who pleaded guilty in 2014 to using straw donors to make political contributions to Republican Wendy Longs 2012 New York Senate campaign. DSouza avoided jail time but paid a fine and served eight months in a San Diego halfway house. DSouza said he was not expecting it when Trump called him earlier this week.
The president said, Dinesh, youve been a great voice for freedom. And he said that, I got to tell you, man-to-man, youve been screwed. He goes, Ive been looking at the case. I knew from the beginning that it was fishy, DSouza told Fox News Fox & Friends on Friday morning. But he said upon reviewing it he felt a great injustice had been done and that using his power he was going to rectify it, sort of clear the slate.
And he said he just wanted me to be out there to be a bigger voice than ever defending the principles that I believe in, DSouza continued.

I'm guessing... his lawyers, after digging into celebrities who have been convicted of crimes similar to the ones his coterie has been committing and also have the extra special added spice of having been prosecuted by USDA's from NY who are on his hit list.

(1,896 posts)I still have a problem with the psych counseling for an election offense. It seems like a judge making a political point rather than a justifiable point. D'Souza did the crime, and I wouldn't have had a problem with giving him prison time and some outright silly community service requirements, but it was really hard to explain the psych counseling as appropriate.
