Contempt for your allies to further ones own aim seems to have become a hallmark of Trumpism. Like his blatant racism, will this tactic expand to other areas of our society?
Canada is complaining loudly about President Trump's decision to slap its steel exports to the U.S. with a 25 percent tariff. David Greene talks to Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.

(476 posts)Don't even think the US can be called an ally any more. The Brits aren't far behind.
Go it alone actually means go it alone... Who'd a thunk?

(90,769 posts)A lot like Trump Org.
Trump has to control the narrative in his own organization. He is trying to do the same to the country.
If it's only his narrative, then all anyone who works for him knows is what he says. The only truth, the only way of doing things, the only way it can be.
Otherwise, people challenge him. They expose his lies. They expose his crimes.
His empire crumbles when anyone takes a close look.
So the goal is to keep them from getting that look.
He's doing the same thing to America - as much as he can.
A closed system where reality is manipulated - like tariffs against our allies will make America great again.
Isolating America also benefits those who want to see America falter and fracture.
Attack our allies and leave us without friendly countries that trust our government.
That trust, even if only a few inches deep, matters.
