CA: I'm asking you to vote for the following House candidates

I don’t like to tell people how to vote in primaries but we are in a “break the glass” situation in thre Orange County Congressional primaries due to the insane top-two system. So, I am going to ask DUers in the OC to vote for three specific candidates. Then you can take my advise to the polls or tell me to fuck off. It’s up to you, but now is not the time to fall in love.

CA-39: Gil Cisneros

CA-48: Harley Rouda

CA-49: Sarah Jacobs

Sorry, but it's the jungle primary problem. This is a plus1% Repub registered voter district and there is only one Dem polling in the top three, Doug Applegate. Chavez is definitely going to win one of the two Nov slots, as the map he represents in Sacramento is pretty much the same as the map for Ca49. (There's a real reason the DCCC has been running ads against him ) So that leaves only one slot
open for a Dem. on the "top two" Nov ballot. Right now Jacobs and another selffunder are currently polling low to lowest among the 4 Democrats, but with enough votes to spoil it for Dems getting onto the ballot in Nov.

Enough of this highwire act. The primary is in four days.

Splitting the vote among Democrats will be disastrous. This is not like an ordinary primary, where you can vote you "conscience" among a group of candidates, knowing one of them, at any rate, will be on the ballot in November. Not the case in the jungle primary: a split among the Ds could easily put two Republicans on the ballot. Even a point or two is crucial with this many candidates running altogether.

So put aside your preferences, Californians in critical districts: vote for the Democrat that most other Democrats will be voting for (and hopefully some sane Republicans too), even if they're not your first choice.

Feinstein is a gimme. I like De Leon more. I will vote for him in November against Feinstein.

But if we can jigger it so two Democrats are running for the senate seat, win-win.

Harkey (R) is not a big surprise since she's always been in the top 3. Looks like the R's got organized behind her over Chavez . Those relentless DCCC ads against Chavez really seem to have taken him out. Both are more mild, popular Repugs compared to Gaspar the Trumper. So harder to run against than Issa was.
But the Dems, Applegate Jacobs,Levin all neck and neck now, no clear front runner. So I guess Dems will just have to vote for whomever they think has the best chance in Nov & hope that one of our three gets on the ballot. With Chavez down so far, at least it's not quite as scary to have 3 Dems pretty much all in 2nd place & splitting the total. The good news is that total Dem percentage appears bigger than the total Repug percentage right now; that augers well for Nov. But we still need to get thru June 5, and I'm plenty nervous.

Any favorites? I've been trying to find endorsements but have had no luck.

Also, School Superintendant if you have any info would be appreciated

And I think it’s going to D vs D in November. Endorsements are on their websites. In the other race, I voted for TonyvThurmond because his opponent is from the charter school industry.

I know you're for Leno for mayor. Is there a strong reason why so?

I'm between Leno and Alioto at the moment. (Which is weirdly funny, because I'm going to a private reception for Kim tomorrow. A close friend works for her campaign).

I'm just curious what tilted you in that direction.

I lost my mail-in somehow, so I'm going to try to brave my polling place at open.

There's a congressman in my dad's district who helped him navigate VA disability, and if I lived there, I'd vote for him endlessly based on that alone.

I'm leaning Leno. I do like Alioto a great deal, though.
