(7,888 posts)speaking truth to Republican power. I hope Republicans who say they will vote for Democrats show up in November and keep their promise. Voting is done in private, no one is obligated to disclose their choice or reasoning.

(5,165 posts)I don't think any of us could have foreseen the absolute dereliction of duty by the Congress to put a rein on the occupant of the White House. 45 should have been served with Articles of Impeachment as soon as he finished taking his oath of office for, at the very least, violations of the Emoluments Clause.

(14,312 posts)is a scary thing. When Trump finally is shown the door, hopefully a jail cell door, for decades to come, there will be younger upstarts begging to take over where their Dear Leader left off. Inspired and emboldened by how far he got. Smarter, more devious, less transparent candidates.

(19,259 posts)started decades ago when Nixon and his "ratfuckers" started fixing elections. Certainly dirty tricks have always existed, but not to the widespread degree Republicans honed their destructive "craft".

It's really bad right now, of course. Planetary wealth more than quadrupled over the last 40 years. New centimillionaire and billionaire classes. The right-wing conspiracies some fund to corrupt and re-form the nation we've always believed we had are much larger and deeply embedded than we realized.
It's happening in nations around the planet, and it's not in the interest of anyone but an extreme few. If even 10% of our own more deluded electorate could be turned against them, we could fix most of it, though. Hopefully, they're doing that themselves. Scary times.

(3,304 posts)As if the system we have today isn't the product of decades of political corruption. When we look to the CIA for moral guidance we've lost our bearings. Instead of addressing the corruption of the political system, we have the daily hate sessions, as if only one person is responsible for everything that is wrong. The only difference between this administration and earlier ones is that they've dropped the hypocritical mask. They are morally and ethically bankrupt and don't even bother to pretend otherwise. Remind me again who voted for Gina Haspel? Who did she work for?
"It never dawned on me we could face such a development in the United States." Please, where have you been for the last eighteen years?
