The Canadian government is slapping the US with tariffs -- and they might be even bigger than expecte

The Canadian government announced retaliatory tariffs on US goods that look to go beyond the value of US tariffs on imports of Canadian steel and aluminum.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland announced the responsive measures to President Donald Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum from the US's northern neighbor.

Freeland and the Canadian government pegged the total value of the goods subject to the Canadian tariffs at 16.6 billion Canadian dollars, or roughly $12.8 billion US dollars. Those values are roughly equal to that of the Canadian steel and aluminum exports to the US.

"In response to these measures, Canada intends to impose surtaxes or similar trade-restrictive countermeasures against up to C$16.6 billion in imports of steel, aluminum, and other products from the US, representing the value of 2017 Canadian exports affected by the US measures," Canada's government wrote on its official website.

A spokesperson for the Canada's Global Affairs office also confirmed to Business Insider that the target was to place tariffs on 16.6 billion Canadian dollars.

wasn't there at Juno Beach on June 6th, 1944.

They fought like madmen.

Canadian troops were the only Allied soldiers who were able to accomplish all of their objectives planned for the first day of the invasion.

Now Canada rises again against tyranny and fecklessness. It won't be pretty...

America Great Again means insulting those young men by claiming "national security" necessitated protective tariffs on imported products from Canada.

Anyone not understanding why Trudeau and Canadians are not at all polite, instead are enraged, about this should reflect on this.

It is not just about economics, it is about a massive slap in the face, all for the sake of Chaos.

Those men died to defeat as evil a force as has ever existed. Next to Omaha, Juno was the toughest and those brave Canadian men died for a good cause. And they fought like banshees. A good many of them were shot after surrendering in just another of the thousands of atrocities the SS commmitted.

While I get the emotion behind your post, please do not cheapen their sacrifice by tying them in any way to trump. Their memory deserves better.

They would have been there even had the US been absent from the battle.

Trudeau, not a Trump, that " national security" reasons is an insult.

trade that goes both ways with raw materials and parts from one side used to make products on the other side.

Trumpsters feel education makes people soft so they don't bother learning about trade benefits or economics, but one would think the educated Republicans who are doing business might have a problem with this.
