Dan Rather: Quick gut check: what do you think George Washington would think of Trump?

Quick gut check: what do you think George Washington would think of Trump? (Or Ben Franklin? Hamilton? Adams? Jefferson? Madison? Or, for that matter, FDR? Teddy Roosevelt? Eisenhower? Even Ronald Reagan?) We know what his living predecessors think of him - of both parties.

Some of the replies there so far:

They'd all have hated him, but I'm pretty sure Teddy Roosevelt would have beaten him to death with a YUGE stick.

Washington would have challenged him to a gentleman’s duel.
And Trump would have tried to ditch due to heel spurs...

If you hooked up a turbine to the interred body of Ronald Reagan, the energy created from him spinning in his grave could power Los Angeles.

Easy, they'd think he was a wannabe tyrant. They were very familiar with tyrants.

Double gut check: what would they think of us for allowing this to happen🤔

"Gut check" is a good choice of words as I think those you've mentioned would spew theirs at the thought of what is going on.

As a direct descendent of John Adams, I am pretty sure he would be horrified at the perversion of his vision by the current buffoon in chief, and the silent, complicit @GOP

i believe the forefathers would put a hold on Benedict Arnold's execution to hang trump first.

George would have chopped down a cherry tree that would have killed Trump when it fell.

used as they intended, and that the states, instead of repealing it, had gone with a winner take all system for each state, and that caused the election of the worst, and not the best, as they thought it would do.

I saw a huge protest on C-SPAN once. I'm pretty sure it was one of the huge protests in New York City during the 2004 Republican convention. One of the protestors was wearing a T-shirt that I've been trying to find ever since. On the left side of the shirt, it had a picture of George Washington, and underneath, it said, "Could not tell a lie." Then on the right, there was a picture of Bush, and underneath, it said, "Could."

That shirt could be just as applicable today by replacing the picture of Bush with one of Trump. I would love to have a shirt like that, but I can never find it anywhere.
