WoW...
I watched their first appearance on Ed Sullivan. It was past my sisters and my bedtime, yet mom fell asleep and we watched and woke her when it was over. She was pissed at us...yet we saw them!!!!
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night

Stacy Abrams represents the best in all of us.
"Do all the good you can for as long as you can"
THIS:
Stacy Abrams Family Foundation:
Despite struggling to make ends meet for their family, her parents made service a way of life for their children if someone was less fortunate, it was their job to serve that person.
Stacy recalls:
We didnt know it was called service; we just knew it was called Saturday.
THIS:
Stacey's Work
She put her education to work to better the lives of Georgians through the government, nonprofit, and business sectors.
Dedicated to civic engagement, she founded the New Georgia Project, which submitted more than 200,000 registrations for voters of color between 2014 and 2016.
Under the pen name Selena Montgomery, Stacey is the award-winning author of eight romantic suspense novels, which have sold more than 100,000 copies.
As co-founder of NOW Account a financial services firm that helps small businesses grow Stacey has helped create and retain jobs in Georgia.
And through her various business ventures, Stacey has helped employ even more Georgians, including hundreds of young people starting out.
✔I Nominate Stacy Abrams to represent the unified Democratic Party.
EDITED for truth.

(68,587 posts)I have just recently decided to lose the word 'progressive' ...I am a a liberal Democrat. I find progressive is too divisive and has hidden agendas and meaning...just me though...my two cents.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)I'm a proud liberal also, but progressivism in government means belief in using government to advance society and to solve problems too big for private organizations and individuals.
That's us. We're it.
(And in better times some moderate conservatives.)
Capital-P Progressives, as they've branded themselves, so absurdly imagined they could take over our party and started by trying to appropriate our identity. But they can't because it's what we are and liberal progressives outnumber left-wing zealots several times over.
A bit of label history: The very concept of government of, by and for the people is both intensely liberal and intrinsically progressive. The liberal-dominated party in America has been the party of our founding liberal progressivism ever since Jefferson and Madison founded the Democratic-Republican party. We lost the Democratic label temporarily before the civil war, but never our progressivism, when conservatives flooded in and our party split.
But today's Democratic Party has been the home of progressivism ever since liberals, and some moderate conservatives, who'd moved mainly to what was the progressive wing of the Republican Party after the Civil War, moved back to the Democratic Party and reclaimed the name.
So, don't reject a word that identifies one of our proudest and most important principles because it's been soiled by destructive zealots. Reject zealotry instead, and the lies zealots always find necessary to justify themselves.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)They stole that word away from us and used it against us just to convince people that we were not moving forward. It was a dirty trick.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)But I think we can underestimate the capacity of zealots for self delusion. Just guessing, but I really doubt even one in ten are clear-eyed, aware liars, or remains so very long, very definitely including Sanders. His seeming enraged belief at the end that he should have won was...eye opening. And those who aren't so deluded are probably from among his hostile populists. Righteous belief is the strength of zealots. A lot like their counterparts on the right.
Demsrule86
(68,587 posts)sick of hearing about the 'progressive wing of the party vs the corporatists. It is divisive and I won't go along anymore. Thus Stacy is a Democrat period in my world. I vote for whoever the Democrat is in the general. In the primary, I vote issues but always keep electability in mind ...just my take.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)a progressive liberal. And when I speak of progressivism (often) I always try to make clear that I am not talking about those destructive, dysfunctional dissenters who gave us Trump while arguing along with the Republicans for the repeal of the ACA.
Damned if I'll let both them and Republicans corrupt and dirty the word progressive into something that can't be used without fighting it. It's a hugely important concept and has no current replacement.
But I certainly do understand. Every time I see it degraded to mean them I'm revolted.

I voted De Leon. He shares my values, I think its time for change, and hes a Democrat.
This pure joy some have on DU over punching Left is odd to me. Most important midterm in our lifetimes, and yet, punch Left, punch Left, punch Left.
If I were an asshole conspiracist, Id be making claims about Putin and whatnot. A contingent of anti-Left is alive and well. Any Bernie post gets hundreds of replies agaibst. And anti-Trump posts get very little in comparison.
So so curious. Hmmm.
R B Garr
(16,954 posts)the same as Hillary was subjected to. No thanks. That whole debacle is the exact subject of the Mueller investigation/indictments, so no need for you to try and grab the spotlight for yourself as if you have some clever epiphany that is counter to what the news tells us. We know who was targeted and it was Hillary ---not the "Left". The "Left" was helped so that Democrats would be split. No way do you get to subvert reality.
I like how you engage in punching Democrat Feinstein as you try to claim some moral high ground about "values." Insulting Democrats isn't a "value". No one has to be ashamed about having name recognition. How absurd to suggest Feinstein is damaged goods because people in California know her, trust her, and chose her.
Look at Feinstein's numbers from yesterday. They speak for themselves.
Welcome to DU, and hmmmmm also. So so curious, indeed.

(42,862 posts)This clearly demonstrates that Bernie's "Our Revolution" group is too fringe, and out of touch with America's mainstream.
All I'm trying to point out is that it's plainly obvious, that Bernie's group is simply not connecting (and not making any sort of positive impression) enough to guide and influence voters in a meaningful way.

"In a statement early Wednesday morning, Sanders touted the work of Our Revolution, the political organization formed out of his presidential campaign, and its winners on Tuesday night, including a pair in the Hawkeye State. He also gave a nod to d'Alessandro, who "despite being heavily outspent," Sanders said, "ran a great, grassroots campaign in Iowa. I am sorry he lost."
It was also a disappointing night for Sanders ally Cathy Glasson, a nurse and union leader backed by Our Revolution who came up short in the gubernatorial contest, which was won overwhelmingly by businessman Fred Hubbell."
