With 100% vote in, California jungle primary blocks Republicans in 11 races, Democrats blocked in 1

Last edited Wed Jun 6, 2018, 05:23 PM - Edit history (1)

Edited to add:

It appears that the Republicans have narrowly got the top two positions in CA 8.
In a jungle primary there are three possible outcomes for the GE. It is a deeply red district that Cook carries with 60+% and Trump carried by 15 points.

Original post

Republican + Republican
Republican + Democrat
Democrat + Democrat

At this time the NYT is showing the following results for the Senate race and the 53 Congressional Districts

Republican + Republican = 0 The Republicans were not able to put 2 candidates in the top 2 spots in a single race.

Republican + Democrat = 43 Congressional races

Democrat + Democrat (or independent/green etc) 10 Congressional Races and the Senate race.

Districts include

5, 6, 13, 19, 20 27 32, 34, 40, 44. In these Congressional Districts and the Senatorial Seat no Republican can win in the General Election, they are shut out.

We aren't going to sweep every time but this 11 - 0 is a great victory and confirms that, for California, the jungle primary works well for us.

We aren't going to have to waste hundreds of millions in these races and we aren't going to give a platform for 11 Republican candidates to use to build their careers.

Not having a competitive Senate candidate only has good results in reducing Republican enthusiasm for the GE.

Other results, including districts like CA 49 (Issa's old district) looking very good. Three out of the top four were Democrats.

It looks like Dem Josh Harder has second place (9014), well behind the Repub leader, but a Repub is very close behind (8406). Anyone with latest info?

*************

From Stockton Record 2 hours ago: Josh Harder was in second place with 14 percent and Republican Ted D. Howze had 11.15 percent of the vote.

San Joaquin County voters placed Denham in first, with 39 percent of the vote, and had a much tighter race between Democrat Michael Eggman, Harder and Howze.

This one isn't being talked about. Because believed no chance to flip?

Democrats "fear and loathing" (actually heard that term even after any chance of a serious "shutout" was over) over the possibility of losing it again, rather than of the Republicans' real fear today.

Yes, yes, it is.

This morning I was listening to cable media spin races like 17-16 for 2nd and 3rd places as disasters for embattled Democrats, instead of the reality that so many people voting Democratic was a worst case for Republican strategists.

Republicans had enough state seats to block responsible budgeting and the state had big deficits.

With the jungle primary Dems got a 'super majority' balanced the budget

You would change your mind if you went into a voting booth and had a hard time choosing between 2 Democrats.
