Democrats fighting to flip four Orange County GOP-held congressional districts appear to have weathered their first challenge: surviving Tuesdays primary election to advance to November runoffs, the Orange County Register reports.
The four races have drawn national attention due to their potential to help Democrats shift the balance of power in Congress. But a glut of Democratic candidates in three of the contests threatened to split the partys vote in a way that allows two GOP candidates to advance, locking out Democrats and thwarting a blue wave of enthusiasm.
But early Wednesday it appeared Democrats had dodged their nightmare scenario by finishing among the top two vote-getters in all four districts.
Los Angeles Times: However, with a large number of mail ballots still to be counted, it could be days before results are certain.

(31,261 posts)Republicans tend to vote early, by absentee and on Election Day. Mailin thru Election Day ballots typically are a very blue state thing, and have been shown to lean more heavily democrat. Also, for some reason, our side do not maximum advantage of early voting, that is troubling because early voting makes voting more convenient, even on weekends when people have time off from work.

(58,785 posts)If we dodged a lockout, they lost one of their great hopes for holding the house. The news from MANY races this morning is encouraging for Democrats overall, increasingly worrisome for Republican hopes for holding congress and state offices.
Joe Scarborough's behavior speaks far more honestly. When I turned off Morning Joe 40 minutes into the show, the poor fellow still hadn't been able to bring himself to even MENTION the elections and their results. This post-election show started out with D-Day and RFK memorials, then a long segment on the Eagles/national anthem, interspersing each with woeful comments on the decline of America. When I switched channels back at 8:56, they were talking about D-Day.
Yes, I guess that was a very sad day -- for those on the wrong side of history.

An article full of hedging that is actually about excellent campaigns.

(58,785 posts)An article in Vox on the takeaways from this election actually identified as a loser "anti-corruption Democrats." I didn't make the mistake of thinking that referred to the vast diverse body of mainstream Democrats or to the people many of us voted for with satisfaction yesterday.
Ranged against what seems like all the evils of the world, including corrupt media, how do we ever win anything? But we do.

(10,014 posts)All negative nonsense about the Dems. Williams and guests were trying to top each other in their insults toward Dems.

(58,785 posts)to watch as the results were reported. I intended to but haven't watched Williams since Andrew McCabe was fired, loooong sympathetic panel discussion about how unfair Trump was to poor McCabe, without a single mention by anyone of the actions that caused both the OIG's and FBI's own internal investigations in late 2016 to recommend he be fired.
So of course also not even the briefest hint of wonder as to why a man in line to be the next Director of the FBI would have committed likely career suicide by blatantly interfering in the election against Democrats. He must have believed Trump would probably protect him from actually being fired, but he must also have known no one could depend on that malicious whack job.
The NYT also colluded with the FBI to bury the seriousness of the Trump-Russia investigation. And the AP issued at least one blatantly false, and other misleading, stories about the Democrats, on its own or otherwise. MSNBC. CNN -- no one did more to create and elect Trump than Jeff Zucker.
