I wanted a Newsom- Villiagrossa race but maybe the specter of the Trump boggeyman in Cox will drive up Democratic turnout and help our down ballot candidates.

The forgotten tax cutting repug who rode a childhood dream pledge of "no taxes" to a brief flirting with fame.

He even got many top repugs to sign his childhood fantasy.

Wonder where he is now (not really)?

I rather have a crooked pol than a despotic one. You can replace the former with ease, the latter not so much.

but, RI did have Republican governors from 1995-2011.

Seems to be pretty common in the Northeast - NY, Mass and CT have also had way too much time with Republican governors. Democrats in Mass have a huge 3:1 edge in voter registration compared to Republicans, but if Baker wins re-election in November (which seems likely), they will have had Republican governors for all but 8 of the previous 32 years when Baker's second term ends in 2022. Only Deval Patrick's 8 years interrupted Republican governorships from 1991 onwards.

And why Democrats now need to clean the Republican stables because the GOP won't do it themselves. As is always the case, the Democrats clean up the Republican messes.

It's nasty work but someone has to do it.
