A dead man's car

There's an interesting thread in GD about crocs eating religious figures. Probably not true because it keeps coming up every now and then with a variation or two.

Here's an urban legend I fell for. I was told that a man had committed suicide in his Corvette. It went undiscovered while the body decomposed. Since they could never get rid of the smell, the Corvette was available for a song.

I then passed the story on to my boss. He said that when he was a teenager, the car was a Cadillac.

Is that story still making the rounds? What car is it today?

It's actually happened too, many times, dead people found in parked cars who weren't discovered until someone noticed the smell.

But maybe that story wouldn't be reported about anyone wealthy enough to drive an expensive car, only about someone who's car is going to the shredder anyways.

In California it's actually a crime to deliberately ruin a car with substances like butyric acid, putrescine, cadaverine, or other similar substances. Organized crime used to do it, and so did angry people who knew their cars were about to be repossessed.
