It's not a very serious country in many ways.

After seeing post after post here on DU and elsewhere about application of the 1st Amendment regarding "Freedom of Speech" I am convinced that a large number of our citizens were not paying attention in Civics class.

It gets murky with the kneelers because you also need to factor in labor law and the NFL CBA but in general the First Amendment protects your freedom of speech from the government , not your employer.

(82,849 posts)But it would sure be nice to see some follow up reporting from our somnambulant bulldogs of the Fourth Estate, emphasizing the predicament of Puerto Rico and its American citizen residents, and highlighting the weak sauce efforts by the Trump administration to help the victims of this disaster. Maybe one of them could rear up on his or her hind legs and ask Sarah Sanders about it once in a while.
This story is kind of a big deal, encapsulating as it does the racism and utter incompetence of the Trump administration, and its near-total aversion to serving all of the American people instead of a narrowly-defined category of the wealthy.
