A gym canceled an LGBTQ workout, citing religion. Now members & staff are quitting.

By Alex Bollinger · Wednesday, June 6, 2018

People are quitting a gym in Indianapolis after it canceled a Pride workout.

Crossfit Infiltrate member Ryan Nix said that he planned a special workout last week for Pride Month, but he received an email saying that the workout was canceled.

“We emailed the owner since it seemed that there was an issue with people who may be LGBT,” Nix wrote on Facebook in a message that has since been made private. “You can see from his response that there is…. Please tell your friends not to join this place.”

Brandon Lowe, the general manager of Crossfit Infiltrate, told Nix that the gym was for “total health,” and that pride prevents people from seeing themselves “as God truly defines them to be.”

these people. What happens when atheists start citing their lack of religion as a reason to not serve the religious? and if that isn't an acceptable reason then why not? So many cans of worms being opened because of this sick need to discriminate.

Seriously.

We are choosing sides and facing each other over a growing divide marked by fake religion.

pharmacists continue to be allowed, either by law, or absence of prohibitive law, to deny women their prescriptions for birth control or access to emergency contraception.

Reports of pharmacies refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control—or provide EC—have surfaced in at least twenty-six states across the nation, including: AZ, CA, DC, GA, IL, LA, MA, MI, MN, MO, MT, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NC, OH, OK, OR, RI, TN, TX, VA, WA, WV, WI

Six states actually permit such refusals via “conscience clauses”:

Policies: Six states—AZ, AR, GA, ID, MS, and SD—have laws or regulations that specifically allow pharmacies or pharmacists to refuse for religious or moral reasons without critical protections for patients, such as requirements to refer or transfer prescriptions.

https://nwlc.org/resources/pharmacy-refusals-101/

And now employers can refuse insurance coverage for birth control on religious or moral grounds:

On Oct. 6, 2017, the Trump Administration released two new rules that allow any employer with religious or moral objections to refuse to comply with the Affordable Care Act requirement that women receive insurance coverage of birth control, without additional cost

The Trump Administration issued two separate rules. One exempts virtually any employer from providing birth control coverage because of religious objections – this includes non-profit organizations, closely-held and publicly traded for-profit companies, and “any other nongovernmental employer.” It also includes institutions of higher education. The second rule grants an exemption for employers other than publicly traded for-profit employers if they object based on undefined “moral” reasons. In other words, the Trump Administration has granted an exemption from providing birth control coverage to almost the entire American workforce.

I bring this up not to lessen the serious problem of LGBTQ discrimination in stories such as the one posted in the OP, but to remind people that discrimination against women on “moral or religious” grounds remains an ongoing—and frequently unremarked—problem of great severity as well, with lives impacted and sometimes at risk.

A for-profit Corporations first and ONLY legal 'morality' is to MAKE MONEY. If these businesses want to claim a religious exemption based on a religious belief, then let them refile their corporate paperwork as a NONPROFIT CHURCH, and go from there. No insurance company in the country is gonna do that, because then they might be required by their own moral code to actually give a shit about the Poor (and when they dont, let them be sued).

This splitting hairs is bullshit and I wish we had a Court anywhere in the Country that would have the balls to SAY THAT.

That was a specific ruling
No one will use it as precedence for their behavior

It might not be accurate.
However, the negative Google reviews have been piling up since yesterday.

Edit: I now see the other news on the closure, never mind my question.

Looking for a comment - There is none - But all the classes (Sessions?) for the next 2 weeks are lined out. I assume that means cancelled.

Except for one instructer who has 3 classes this weekend and next still available to sign up for...

But you may need to skip church because the classes are on Sundays

CrossFit's Chief Knowledge Officer Russell Berger Tweeted early Wednesday that he encouraged the gym's decision to refuse to hold the workouts, and thanked them for standing by their convictions and "refusing to celebrate sin."

Just after 5 pm, the company transmitted a message they were doing a "thorough review" and had placed Berger on administrative leave.

Just before 8 pm, they finished their review and transmitted another message: his employment has been terminated.

Not sure who made the decision, but this gym is now closed permanently.
