I remember two times when President Obama spoke after the tragedy at Sandy Hook when he teared up. Some people thought he was acting and some people saw him as being weak. That couldn't be further from my experience. I saw a man with an open heart. I saw a man who was expressing his humanity. I saw a man who was expressing compassion and empathy. I saw him as the opposite of fake. I saw him as someone who was expressing his humanity through his willingness to experience this horrible loss personally. That cannot be faked because it is personal it is actually felt and therefore it is not acting.
I think the pain that he was expressing was not just for the unspeakable loss but also for the pain of realizing that there was a lack in this country's will to change. He was feeling the pain that was present because even in the light of this traumatic event not enough people were willing to change. He was facing the pain of the realization that the will to change was not present.

(16,104 posts)1. This was a president who grew into the job...
and respected the office and the people who trusted him to be there.
We did real good back then.
I have no idea what happened to us since.
We had the best of times. Now we have the worst of times.
For those of us that loved and appreciated this man.

He was a leader, a guide, our spiritual companion as we traveled through that time of great darkness and sorrow. We were blessed to have him.

Never happening.
He told us we are the ones we have been waiting for and we listened. We are now and in the future making a change, baby steps at times, yet it is for the better. I truly think he gave us love and a touch of magic that will bless our souls and bring us closer together.
