3. People that buy unti that "Burned down the White House" misconception generally don't know..

...the origins of the war itself. I've actually seen an article saying that Canada had taken them by surprise and the first thing you know...the WH is on fire.

They generally get 2 things right. The White House did burn, and the War of 1812 did, in fact, occur in 1812. They dont' know, or refuse to accept the fact that it was a move of imperialist aggression by Monroe, who really stumped for support for his plan..

A small and moderately-interesting bit of trivia is that it was the run-up to this war that gave us the term "hawk", Monroe and his supporters were dubbed "The Warhawks."
