The top two winners go onto the general, without regard to the party.

And we are currently in a nail-biting ballot count for second place between an R and D (the incumbent, Jeff Denham, has already secured his spot.) We lost almost every local race - DA, Judge and county supervisors. Even though we had too many candidates on the ballot, it doesn’t excuse a pitiful 20% turnout during a “blue wave” election cycle.

turnout will be low. Again - and I've said it here many times before - the Nov 2018 election needs to be historic. It needs to be the election that turn out the highest percentage of registered voters ever in the U.S. We must send a message to Trump and the Repugs - that we're as mad as hell and ain't gonna take it anymore.

We have to believe that the Repugs will pull out all the stops - with their gerrymandering; voter suppression; out and out stealing of votes and with the help of the Russians. The only way we're going to be able to counteract that is by having a record turnout of Dems to overcome all of the Repugs dirty election night tricks.

This must be an historic election. Most people ever that voted in a U.S. election. GOTV!!!!!

The Dems need to be on top of this and lead this charge. They should have started this long ago - but they can't wait any longer to motivate Dem voters to GOTV.

22% this time around. The CA Secretary of State's website has a lot of stats on the election, including turnout by county (best: Sierra at 70%, worst: Imperial at 16%). Turnout was pathetic.

scanned it quick. Villaigorosa was questioning this last night, but I think the outcome was that they got Provisional ballots. That’s a huge glitch.

and in California, they could cast a provisional ballot which would be counted when their registration was verified (and all provisionals are counted if the voter is registered).

and in California, they could also register on Election Day and cast a ballot on the spot which would also be counted once the registration was verified as proper.

and state law requires that all legitimate provisional ballots be counted, not just those that could be decisive in an election.

this isn't to minimize the 118k left off the rosters at the polls, that's indefensible.

We need to take this stuff seriously, I worry it could be a bigger problem in November

Info on reports that people did not receive provisional ballots here-

I would also be very curious if there was any kind of pattern to who was deleted (race, gender, party affiliation, etc)

Americans are stupid and apathetic. They just don't care if we end up with a dictatorship. They'll sit back and let it happen instead of getting out and trying to stop it.

Polling high? "Yay, I don't need to vote!" Result: your candidate loses.

Polling low? "Damn, no need to vote now." Result: your candidate loses.

Instead: "Fuck the polls, I'm voting! ".

14. A couple of possible explanations for why so low a turnout.
Thu Jun 7, 2018, 12:10 AM
Jun 2018

I live in Los Angeles County. I don't know what the final turnout will be, but I hope it will be more than the 21% currently being reported. Two possible explanations. 1) Prior to the election, I received a notice asking whether I wanted to Vote by Mail permanently. It said if I wanted to choose this option, then mail back the information card and you would be put on the list for a mail in ballot for all future elections. 2) All Ballots Postmarked by Tuesday June 5, and received by Friday June 8, will be counted.

Now I am a realist so I'm not betting the farm on a larger than normal turnout of Mail in ballots, but you never know. I considered returning the post card and going to a permanent Vote by Mail status, but didn't do it this time, though I know the option is available for future elections and I probably will do it prior to November. But I'm hoping that a ton of people decided to take up that offer, rather than sitting out the Primary. One can still hope.
