Full on Twitter rage mode...

The Obama Administration is now accused of trying to give Iran secret access to the financial system of the United States. This is totally illegal. Perhaps we could get the 13 Angry Democrats to divert some of their energy to this “matter” (as Comey would call it). Investigate!

The conversion to dollars, it turns out, never took place. And there is no claim that the license broke U.S. law. Most Republicans opposed the Iran deal, from which President Trump withdrew last month.

Democrats on the committee neither signed on to the report nor issued a minority report of their own. But Jarrett Blanc, former State Department coordinator of the Iran deal, called the report "wildly overblown." He said the license was not made public but that Obama administration officials were "transparent with Congress."

"This isn't just rehashing old fights," Blanc said. "The administration and its Hill supporters are trying to make it harder for the government to do the hard, day-to-day work of making sanctions effective without pushing Allies and partners to find work arounds."

U.S. banks, however, balked at the transfer plan despite encouragement from U.S. officials, the report says. Iran protested to administration officials, but transfer into dollars never took place.

Eventually, Iranian officials "stopped complaining to the State Department" and converted small amounts of rials directly to euros without using the U.S. financial system, the report says.
