Republicans seek Plan B on midterm messaging

BY MELANIE ZANONA - 06/07/18 06:00 AM EDT

Republicans are working on a backup plan in case the GOP tax law does not turn out to be a strong selling point for their party in this year’s midterm elections.

While the booming economy is expected to be a core pillar of the GOP’s midterm messaging, it’s unclear whether the party is going to get credit for the tax law, which has lagged in polls.

As a result, GOP leaders on both sides of the Capitol are emphasizing a breadth of legislative achievements as they seek to convince voters to keep them in charge and not deliver majorities to Democrats. To bolster their case, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) point to a flurry of wide-ranging bills sent to President Trump’s desk last month.

But congressional leaders say their plan all along has been to sell the GOP's entire package of accomplishments, including tax reform.

We will never convince the trumpettes of rump and his cronies continued rape of our country's resources.

Continue the efforts of convincing the overwhelming number of independents and democrats that 83% of the 2018 tax law benefits flowed not to us, but to the ultra rich.

Continue the efforts of convincing religious leaders of the raw unsuitability of this bigoted president in governing this country on a non-partisan basis, and point out rump's continued idiotic remarks (which consist mostly of lies) and actions that are harming this nation's creditability w/ our good allies on all fronts.

Continue the efforts to counter rump and his cronies of the damage their cutbacks on EPA activities is costing us (again, business was allowed to pollute the environment and guess who pays for it? We do.).

All of these things alone are enough to justify that Congress step in, based solely upon national security concerns, and use in order to dispose of rump and his cronies immediately before they damage everything beyond repair.
