Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) introduced a bipartisan bill on Thursday that would allow states to regulate marijuana without federal interference.
Warren and Gardner, who both represent states with legal recreational pot, introduced the legislation, known as Strengthening the Tenth Amendment Through Entrusting States (STATES) Act, as a response to the Trump administration's hardline stance against the drug.
The bill would amend the Controlled Substances Act to include a framework that says it no longer applies to those following state, territory or tribal laws relating to the manufacture, production, possession, distribution, dispensation, administration or delivery of marijuana."
"Its time to reform Americans outdated marijuana policies," Warren tweeted with a video of her and Gardner speaking at a press conference announcing the measure.

(23,957 posts)why is the simplest solution to this self-inflicted problem the hardest to implement?
nominal qualifications for being a Schedule I substance:
- The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
- The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
- There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

clearly the second qualification has been rendered bullshit. the third has also fallen. the first is disputable, especially in light of the status of the 2nd and 3rd. it's time for Democrats to seriously pursue rescheduling marijuana, or Republicans are going to steal this issue and the votes that come with it. this is one issue where Republicans could make serious inroads with younger people, Democrats need to push it incessantly for strategic purposes if not moral ones.
