Are we Idiocracy yet?

I’m struck by the Deplorables’ life views. Idiocracy right? Only meaner. I can picture Trump in the place of President Camacho. The Republicans could quite easily be pictured wearing clothing made up of corporate logos.

Fox News fits right in with Idiocracy. The EPA will create the Great Garbage landslide eventually. If 44% of the population approves of Trump will it take long for us to become the IQ minority.

I need to see the movie again, but I’m afraid to. There might be too many other similarities!

The 24-hour news cycle, even on CNN, that continually broadcasts images of and normalizes this Orange Nightmare befouling the Oval Office is dizzying. And you can be sure the Deplorables say "more better."

And he had least the sense to listen to others.

My husband refuses to watch the movie now because he says it makes him Uncomfortable that we are there now.

After my one viewing of Idiocracy, ostensibly a comedy, I was in a deep, depressed daze for a week or so. I couldn't get that squalid, tawdry, unedifying, hopeless image of our future out of my mind.

It seemed that the rednecks and hillbillies had won, and created the disgusting anti-intellectual world they'd always dreamed of.

Then someone here on DU pointed out to me that President Camacho, despite his violent flamboyance, actually wanted to make the country better, and sought out the most intelligent person for the job. That was a ray of hope for me.

And as a whole, there were many people in that low-brow world who seemed to feel, however vaguely and poorly-defined, that this is not how things were supposed to be; things were supposed to be better than this, and it was possible to make it so.

That really helped...

I think I must have watched it pretty close to when it came out in 2006. I didn’t feel too alarmed about it then, mostly because I still had faith in Americans, but now I see I was fooling myself.

Kakistocracy - a term meaning a state or country run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens. The word was first coined by English author Thomas Love Peacock in 1829, but was rarely used until the 21st century.

Embellished and augmented, perhaps, by kleptocracy.
