Later in life, I have taken to believe that no birth condition due to genetics should be considered a defect. Humanity simply has not yet evolved enough to cope with our differences so that everyone can survive, contribute and be happy.

(1,214 posts)born visually disabled. I'm not blind, I just have a stack of vision problems: no depth perception, one eye is paralyzed, etc.
I DID choose to learn to drive. Eventually I even got halfway decent at throwing and catching.
So I would add to the list I didn't choose to be disabled but I did choose to push myself to the limits of my abilities.
