House Republicans eliminate funding for Children's Health Insurance Program

Travis Gettys 08 JUN 2018 AT 06:28 ET

House Republicans voted overwhelmingly to eliminate funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, after approving a White House budget plan.

Representatives voted 210-206 — with 187 Democrats and 19 Republicans against — to rescind nearly $15 billion in unspent funding that had previously been approved, including $7 billion for CHIP, reported the New York Times.

The bill approved by House Republicans would reduce actual spending by a total of $1.1 billion from 2018 to 2028, according to the CBO.

(despite the fact that this particular legislation is exempt from the filibuster)

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/5/8/17316126/rescission-request-omb-trump-fiscal-budget

It's not cutting current funds but clawing back un-obligated funds (funds not spent - and in this case, most likely not spent because the current administration refused to spend it and in some cases, couldn't spend it when the program was forced to lapse and was only renewed recently).

I sincerely hope so.

The idea that if the ACA fails...oh boy we get single payer or even a public option is just plain wrong. You can't do a public option without the ACA in reconciliation and i don't see a 60 vote margin anytime soon in the Senate...single payer would require a 60 vote margin as would even a public option if we don't have the ACA as a starting point. You think the GOP is dumb enough to do something that would give us single payer...no they know we won't have an opportunity for years.

keep moderate dems in the Senate in case we don't get the house...there is a gerrymander in effect. Although I think our prospects look good.

would be defunded for two years until we get rid of Shitler...but even if they don't pass it i the Senate, we can used it to clobber house members...Healthcare is the issue...but they are still fighting the last war. The GOP made a deal to fund Chip for seven years and Democrats should not agree to anything anymore as the GOP are big fat liars.
