The expulsion of Russia from the G-7(8) was a sanction against it for its illegal invasion of Crimea
In arguing for Russia's re-admittance, Donald Trump is arguing for removal of sanctions against Russia.
He is doing exactly we have long suspected of him of doing, except he now feels emboldened enough to do it all out in the open, even as he whines "No collusion!" while doing it.
No longer does he have to hide in Trump Tower for all this.
