Useful as an explanation and useful for those of us who push back on these right wing talking points. There are lots of links embedded. Make use of them when, oh say, having an online discussion with your MAGA uncle who pretends to have an open mind.

Yeah, deadline pressure’s a bitch. But there are some bizarre notions of American history in which conservatives have become so invested they’ve adopted them into their worldview. The best-known example is probably Jonah Goldberg’s notion of “Liberal Fascism“; nowadays anytime a conservative talks about, say, Woodrow Wilson or Hillary Clinton, you may expect him to mention their resemblance to Benito Mussolini. They don’t even have to think about it, even when normal people are gaping at them open-mouthed like audience members at “Springtime for Hitler” — it’s part of the folklore that helps them understand the American experience.

There are plenty of others. I’ve picked out 10 such ideas that are widespread enough to qualify. (In the nomenclature I have treated “Republican” and “conservative” as synonyms because, come on.)

1. That was quite interesting - I have heard only a couple of those

you have to have a twisted mind and twisted (or alternate) "Facts" to believe any of that horse shit.
And republicans don't disappoint on either count.

"our side can do no wrong" .... The article points out the foundational thinking behind it all.... but of course only some maga types think about it to this degree.

some conservatives who like to base their opinions on "reality". It's just that their "reality" ain't true.

I think if he updated it for today, he'd find far worse. Their abuse of history and facts is a magnitude worse these days. And Trump has showed it can get him elected.
