Trump's Midterm Gift To Dems: A War On Pre-Existing Condition Protections

By Alice Ollstein | June 8, 2018 10:58 am

The Trump administration delivered an early midterms present to Democrats Thursday night when the Justice Department decided to side with 20 GOP states in a lawsuit seeking to gut the core protections of the Affordable Care Act for people with pre-existing conditions.

The long-shot lawsuit argues that because Republicans repealed the ACA’s individual mandate penalty as part of their tax overhaul, all of the remaining law is unconstitutional. The Justice Department, in backing the state’s argument, is seeking to strike down two of Obamacare’s most popular provisions: the rule that insurance companies can’t turn someone away or charge them more based on a pre-existing condition, and the rule that limits how much insurers can charge older patients for their premiums.

A group of Democratic state attorneys general, lead by California’s Xavier Becerra, are riding to the law’s defense.

Democrats, who were already favored going into this November’s election both on the generic ballot and on health care in particular, pounced on the news of the lawsuit, predicting “serious blowback in the midterms” for Republicans.

It takes some peoples very life's to be threatened to make them go to the polls and vote democratic.

It sucks but there it is, we need a ton of votes to make the blue wave happen.

nightmare. I really don't see anything good about people losing their ability to be covered for their pre-existing conditions. It's also made worse by the fact the dems will not be able to reverse the damage of this until there is a Dem president. Even with a Dem president it's not guaranteed the damage will be reversed. Anyways anything bad Trump does is not a gift even if the Dems can benefit from it politically.

Remember, he said he'd have a better health care system where everyone was covered, with lower costs, better coverage, and now look at what he's actually doing. Everything to make sure people don't have health care plans. They cut a trillion out of Medicaid, and 1/2 trillion out of Medicare. Next they'll destroy Social Security, and have already started to hurt it also. Vote people like your life depends on it, because it probably does. If he says one thing , think the opposite , or something he will use to hurt you with, that's how he does.
His followers must be seeing their situation change now adversely from his actions too. The ACA premiums under trump and the GOP are said to rise at least 90% more within 2-3 years because of things they passed and he signed to make them go up for the American people. That means with their changes they may make health care be lost to 80-100 million people in this country. The health care industry is failing fast as I've seen 2 hospitals already closed because of them, and rural area's will lose the most, or trump voters, because they won't have enough business for operations to profit from and they'll be a large number of them have to close down. I think the American people know a fraud when they see it.
