I owe an apology to a few members I unwittingly offended.

Sincerely, if I were them, I'd be offended too. I posted a satirical image about Charles Krauthammer.

I did not know in his youth he suffered an accident which caused a facial paralysis nor that he was a terminal patient and his time was short.

My quite grating and ironic witty, often tends to be sarcastic, but I will never, ever, hurt anyone so cruelly and so lowly, regardless either of their health or appearance, when it is not a deliberate one, and even less, when it is the result of misfortune.

Humor is one thing, wickedness and baseness are others, those are not in my nature.

The hardship he and his family are going through, makes the subject even more despicable.

I considered keeping it while deleting the picture and explain why, but as it remains visible, I deleted the post.

However, even if the topic no longer exists, it does not absolve me from apologizing.

First to himself and his family, although it is unlikely they knew about it, and then to the members of DU whom I unintentionally offended.

Please accept my heartfelt apologies.

It teaches me a lesson for the future : I will be more careful before posting a topic related to a physical peculiarity, a strange resemblance about a public personality i

With anything Krauthammer said. Seldom listened to him, but became curious when he never moved the few times I did see him. Googled and found out.

He was really a brilliant man, so why he chose to be a Republican was beyond me.

If you did not know your apology was great.

As he aroused my curiosity, I did some research.

I'm all impressed with what I've discovered.

He's a genuine intellectual, whose thinking and reasoning follow a complex and profound path.

Through the little I've read, I wouldn't call him a Republican. He embraces some of their point of view, however, he seems to me rather to be navigating between neo-conservatism and neoliberalism.

Many controversial opinions have also been expressed. Some glorify him, others accuse him of intellectual dishonesty.

It is not the few articles I picked here and there that will give me a very accurate idea.

That said, according to my own political tendencies, on many points, I disagree with him completely.

Anyhow, denying him the intellectual etiquette would be wrong.

It's off topic.

The anti-vaccination campaigns, under the fallacious pretext some will likely to cause severe side effects, are getting me nuts!

While vaccines may have serious secondary effects, on one hand, the % of people affected is extremely low, and on the other hand, the effects vary both from vaccine to vaccine as well from the way it is administered, or from one person to another.

Most of the time, the effects are benign with the overall benefits of vaccination far exceeding the potential risks.

Moreover, anti-vaccines often have no medical or scientific background. They propagate nonsense from here and there with no scholarly basis whatsoever!

Anyway, they don't care since they postulate of the “greed and the lack of ethics of laboratories”, helped by officials allegedly complicit, according to some idiotic conspiracy theories !

As a result, some diseases that were once thought to be practically eradicated are resurfacing, causing more damages than the dangers of vaccines, supposedly minimized by the “infamous rapacious laboratories”!

Anti-vaccination morons are real public dangers, both humanly and financially. This bullshit is a huge public health and global disaster!

However, your post wasn't even a slip up, it was just what happens when we as good humans interact with others.

Your apology is one of the best that I've read. You could teach a thing or two to those people who can barely force an "I'm sorry" from their lips.

is separate from the good or ill they do with their beliefs and actions. As I say, I don't know what your "satirical image" was. But I submit that anybody's condition of disability/race/whatever does not equate to getting a free pass for harm they might do. Whenever the wingnuts trumpet the Dem label when a Dem commits a crime, I say, the label in that person's case was a false pretense.

There's a governor in Texas in a wheelchair. He is a raging wingnut who pals with Ted NUGENT. He slashes any program that might help the most vulnerable. When he was a college student, he was jogging and a rotted tree fell on him, leaving him a paraplegic. He spent years suing the homeowner and the tree trimming company and finally got many millions of cash. Fine. But one of his main political feats was to get legislation passed that puts a cap on what others can similarly sue to get. His name is Greg ABBOTT.

As for me, ABBOTT and KRAUTHAMMER deserve withering criticism, disdain, repulsion. It's not a matter of their physical/mental disability or any other condition separate from their beliefs and actions towards others.

I agree to some extent.

Otherwise, we would no longer be able to criticize any of the past monsters in the name of due mercy.

But there is a time for criticism and a time to respect the pain of both the one concerned and his beloved ones, who are going through difficult times.

Moreover, in this particular case, even if the situation had been different, the satirical dimension was based on Charles' facial rigidity, which was the result of an accident.

That makes de facto, any mockery totally inappropriate and cruel.

Krauthammer had a mean streak that really stood out at the time because it was before what we’re so used to getting from the Right now. As time passed he got worse and I simply thought he was very bitter about something. I always knew he was in a wheelchair, so I don’t give him a pass on that account. He was a regular on some political opinion show when I watched him. He said mean and bitingly sarcastic things about Democrats.

My opinion is based on what he did, not whatever affliction he had. His mind worked perfectly, and he used it with sharp precision.

Gives me some, not many, things to muse about, such as:

1) There are DUers on "the Trump train"?
2) What does one do with a post that is lobbed (not a *guided* missile) in one's general direction?
3) What does one do with an implication that the OP needs some kind of defense against me?
4) Is this post (#47) what is called a "blind item" in gossip columns like Page Six?
5) I'm always mystified when the CONTENT of my own words is ignored and thereby dismissed as being on somebody's "train" (talking points).

6) "act like Obama/Trump/whomever" - I picked up from NIETZSCHE to poke around inside my own psyche, not be somebody's Follower or Worshipper, and that goes for what I used to call "heroes" of my own persuasion. The Bill CLINTON saga, where we went to the last barricade to defend him (a human) and therefore abandoned work on our AGENDA for the duration, reinforced the demise of Hero-Worship for me.

But I'm spitting in the wind here, so toodle-oo!1 (Signed: ) Somebody Who Doesn't Attack Members

Well, most of us, anyway.

Edited to add: I didn't see your post, so I can't give comment on it. I will say that I, personally, try to refrain from making negative comments on anyone's physical appearance or afflictions. I kinda cringe when someone calls McConnell a turtle. He can't help that. I can't stand him for many reasons, none of which have anything to do with the way he looks.

At the same time, -45's appearance is self-manufactured, so IMO it's fair game. His hair and his orange-ness are of his own doing. I wouldn't make fun of someone for being bald. It happens, and it's no big deal as far as I'm concerned. I wish nobody was ever dissatisfied with their natural skin tone. We humans are all naturally different hues. and they're all beautiful. Obesity is a big problem for many in this country. I try not to ridicule -45 for it, but when he ridicules others for it, it's a challenge to "go high".

-45 does open the door to criticisms about his appearance because of all of the offensive comments he makes about others, but I hate what he does way more than I hate how he looks.

I didn't know much about Krauthammer until about a year ago when I read up on his history. To me, some of his views are conflicting. I wonder if his opinions on end-of-life issues would change if his prognosis offered him a little more time.

At least he didn't vote for -45, and does believe that his campaign colluded with Russians.
