As far as homosexuality goes, I believe the Bible puts the death penalty on it, Powell said. I believe its disgusting. And incidentally, every scientific test has come back and said that homosexuals are 50 more times likely to get AIDS
we got this AIDS thing spreading
its a fact that this is the case.
You dont believe that gay people should be stoned to death, do you? Skylar asked.
I believe the Bible puts the death penalty on it, Powell replied. Obviously, not by me or anybody in a regular society, obviously. I believe its the governments job to execute criminals. I believe that the Bible says clearly that homosexuality is a criminal crime. Its a crime. Its one of the worst crimes ever.
Is that what youre advocating for? Skylar pressed. That our government should stone gays to death to execute them?
...................................................
By whatever means they execute people. And obviously, I believe in humane, you know, putting to death, Powell replied.............................

(13,033 posts)executing homosexuals can be done with Jesuss approval.

(24,396 posts)Heaven and Earth pass away, that not one iota of the Law would change until then.
Ergo, while Jesus never specifically named homosexuality to be a sin, he did say it was a sin by contending that the strictures against it as outlined in the OT were still in effect, along with the punishment for being homosexual.

(3,363 posts)Leviticus is complicated, and is not referring to modern day homosexuals.
Jesus also never said a word about gays. He did call out people like this fake pastor though and says he doesn't know them.
Voltaire2
(13,033 posts)"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them."
But I am not understanding your reference to "modern day homosexuals" as somehow different from ancient homosexuals. Could you please explain that so that I can understand how ancient homosexuals were subject to execution but this would not apply to "modern" homosexuals?
OliverQ
(3,363 posts)Leviticus was written to the Levite priesthood on proper ritual practices and to not emulate the Canaanites. It has no application to society at large.
I've been studying this for years. That is a stupid understanding of Leviticus.
Voltaire2
(13,033 posts)Now you've settled into the "mistranslated" argument. Before you claimed that it just didn't apply to "modern day homosexuals".
If you are just going to keep changing your argument it is difficult to have an actual discussion.
OliverQ
(3,363 posts)and the verse never intended to apply to the general population. It's a book written about Priesthood rituals in contrast to the Canaanite pagan religions. Removing it from context like you did (and that all Evangelicals do) is a butchering of the text.
There are a lot of contextual and textual issues with that verse that nobody bothers to evaluate. It's just a "clobber" passage that uneducated people love to throw out as a weapon against gays.
Voltaire2
(13,033 posts)think the difference is between modern and ancient homosexuals such that Leviticus applies to ancient homosexuals only.
By the way are you also claiming that the prohibitions on incest in Leviticus also only apply to priesthood rituals?
There is a couple of thousand years of Talmudic interpretations of the same text that disagrees with your view. Would you agree that there is legitimate disagreement with your opinion about these texts?

(3,750 posts)Jews. How do modern Jews feel about what this "Christian" says? Do they execute folks for this cause in Israel?
Anyway, the New Testament does not teach execution for any reason. It does say that the Government can execute and warns Christians not to break laws that would bring that result or any other punishment. The "Christian" Evangelicals don't know what "The Bible" says or who it speaks to.
A quick skim of the New Testament shows that Christians have faith in what Jesus did and who He is. They are then to practice their religion by loving one another (and everyone else, too) and doing Good Works. Paul says that, as far as things to obey are concerned, all that matters is Faith working through Love.
I am reading a Kindle Ebook called Created for Good Works! God's Plan for Christians: Faith, Love, and Good Works by H.K. Woodrow that makes what this guy said look about as evil as evil gets.
True Christians do what Jesus did. They love people and go about doing good. If Christianity had held to that practice what would the world look like today? It is disgusting what those claiming Christianity say. Eat up with ignorance and hate.
Voltaire2
(13,033 posts)Christian institutions were either executing people themselves or demanding that the state execute people. The laws of the OT also were routinely applied. And as noted elsewhere in this thread there is at least one unambiguous statement in the NT that the OT laws remain in effect.
theophilus
(3,750 posts)at the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. After that point the Law passed into history and the Law of Christ went into effect. Paul spent his career fighting the Judaizers who wanted Gentile converts to observe the Law of Moses and believe in Jesus to be saved. The response from the Apostle Paul was, "No way!" Peter had to be taught that there were no more dietary laws or restrictions from associating with non-Jewish Christians. It is all there. There was a change. The former Jews could still follow some of the practices but they could not bind them on others. There was misuse and abuse but it was out with the Old and in with the New. It is there if you will look. All the commands were superseded by "Love your neighbor as yourself." Old habits die hard and many still want to put the ten commandments on the courthouse lawn. They are wrong.
If we believe in loving others and treating them the way we want to be treated we are following the teachings of Jesus even if we do not claim belief in Jesus. Can't we all agree that love, and not hatred and fear, is the answer?

(67,108 posts)judgmental. It was also very profitable and used as a tool for political and wealth clout. There was also a lot of one-upmanship in the good book. It was what they had then, good or bad and people leveraged their intentions off of it, often a tool for oppression and obedience. And the strong male preachers and whatnot used it as a club. IMO it's time to toss all of this crap. It's so hard to believe in the 21st century some are still clutching the bible.

(31,389 posts)If he wants to use his mythological book of sky daddy stories to justify stoning gays, how about we return to the Roman custom of throwing Christians to the lions? We could make sure everyone stands for the National Anthem and it could be the opening act in all those pro football stadiums. Just think of the fun!
I was tempted to leave out the sarcasm smiley, but figured I'd be incinerated if I didn't include it.
This is the problem with all these evangelicals: they don't believe in evolution--physical or societal--and want to enshrine some book of stories as law that we now know flies in the face of science.
