How exactly should Russia/Putin be dealt with in the future?

I was rewatching the Obama/Romney debate from 2012 and this clip is particularly hard to watch.

Russia's capabilities in propaganda manipulation and their determination to twist US politics to their own ends was really underestimated. Even if Trump gets voted out in 2020, russians are still going to keep meddling in our affairs so what can we really do against them?

There's almost nothing to do.

The lesson of Trump is that the US is a soft target.

Trump is the beginning of this, not the end.

And the only things that would stop it are universally trusted gatekeepers, civic engagement that's not just arguing online, and schools they educate well enough to allow citizens to spot the truth....

So none of that is gonna happen, and America has a huge target on its back, and a bunch of less than happy allows, and degraded cyber defenses... Etc.

So... You know... There's not much.

If he's gone to this much trouble to get them lifted, we know they work.

We need a UN resolution on the use of cyberwarfare and psy-op campaigns which gives us an international platform to respond to its use with sanctions.

You don't respect the sovereignty of other nations, you don't get to participate in the international economy.
