As you might know if you've seen my other posts, I do want peace on the Korean Peninsula. I get the feeling, however, that this summit might boost Spanky and the Republican's approval ratings by an amount that would feel like post 9/11 for Bush and his Republicans, if not quite to that extent. How did those of you who saw through the Republicans from 2001 engage and push back politically during this time of great popularity for them? I'd like to channel my feelings towards action now, and I feel that you all would know how best to do this.

(50,989 posts)Swing Left and Indivisible are two very good ones. Also, it will give you hope to see the work going on behind the scenes. Through those two organizations you can make it very local. With Swing Left, they get you set up to help win the nearest contested seat to where you live.
ETA: Also, if your state or city has not committed to measures that will make your elections secure, you should be calling your representatives at least weekly. Don't write. For some reasons with Congress critters, its the call volume that matters.

(38,958 posts)Turn off the cable news, leave the computer and get outside. There will be an overwhelming wave of stories, opinions and breathless blather about poll numbers, who said what, when it was said and much more.
In the end most of it is just talk to fill airtime between the pharmaceutical industry commercials for drugs we didnt know we needed.
There is family, friends, local events, hobbies and much more that are more important than the latest Tweet about whatever.

(58,785 posts)dominance. And that power comes from the people, not from politicians. We have our next big say on November 6. Ignore all fools and subversive agents who claim it could all be different if Democrats just did "something." That's Thomas Jefferson's good, experienced advice.
Then be a good Democrat and, I assume, liberal. Serve yourself, your family and community, and your nation. These days that requires opposing what the Republican Party has become.
I hope peace is achieved on the Korean peninsula because the alternative is potentially dreadful and not controllable by us. Regardless if people foolishly attribute it to Trump.
I laughed happily, though, when I learned Trump announced he intended to make mandated coverage for existing conditions unconstitutional. He won't succeed, and politically it should shake all the trumpsters to whom he promised better and cheaper healthcare than the ACA.
Even separating children from their parents has a positive side because they did it BEFORE the midterms. Every exposure and hint of what they want to misuse government power for -- before the next election -- makes it more likely we'll be able to return those children to their families this fall and less likely the right will be able to institutionalize their capacity for evil.
We MUST be able to control who replaces Kennedy (and ?) on the Supreme Court.

(99,710 posts)And the reason Bush*'s approval ratings reached stratospheric levels is because we were attacked and Bush united the nation with a coherent response.
