He has a western education - he probably speaks the kings English.
Seriously - "Dotard" - it's perfect.
How many of us were scrambling the dictionary...?
He's damn smarter than Trump!

(1,216 posts)However since this dude was educated in Switzerland, he is more likely to break away from the old tradition in NoKo than his father or grandfather. For the sake of world peace, I hope that is a possibility (of Kim Un joining the world community)

Like Otto W - Trump was clearly screwed on that one.
No way they would have made such a big deal about that release, if they knew he was in bad shape - and would die?
Trump may have gotten played a bit
And - Kim might have taken care of whoever was behind that.
That's still not that good!!! But maybe, less worse.

(1,216 posts)N Korea dictators never bothered to travel outside of their safe cocoon before to meet US presidents. Things must be so bad in N Korea right now, Kim Jong Un actually risked a coup and flew into Singapore. Looks like Kim is desperate to talk peace, but I won't hold my breath. If peace does happen, it frees up 30,000 military personnel stationed in Korea.
We already lost 50,000 soldiers in Korea, don't want more killed.

(24,324 posts)WHICH MEANS, if they really had an interpreter at their tete a tete, it allowed Kim to pretend he does not speak English so he could have time to digest whatever shit comes out of trump's mouth.

We don't like the things Trump has done in our governance, and we don't like what he's done in our general society with the divisiveness, and we certainly don't like his pandering to Russia, and we don't like what he's done with our Allies.
But we have to regard the fact that he did agree to meet with Kim. I think the value benefit goes to N. and S. Korea - First, because they chose to talk with each other. American's only role is to state the basis of "non aggression"... and fact is, it will still be N. and S. Korea who likely have already come to agreement about WMD's, which is why this situation is even taking place.
We have to give Trump credit for coming off the bully and war talk, to meet and talk with Kim.
Sadly for America, Americans people never would have accepted Obama talking to Kim, But Obama was dedicated to diplomacy, but the spins would not allow any dialog to be promoted.
N. Korea knew it needed a power to give its nation the credibility to be heard, and they took great risk to develop the weapon that would give them enough bargaining power to have talks.
I'm not dismissing all the other stuff Trump does that I simply don't like and think it is damaging to America, I don't like the racist ignorance that has been embolden and certainly detest the massive tax give away to the wealthy, with absolutely no mandate for them to invest in America.
But to at least move forward to work with the aims that N. and S. Korea has set for themselves, we can't deny that it is a step forward... among all the other things that have been done and things that have damaged so much within America.
I can't stand the news commentators, who spin and spin, and not one of them know what is being discussed and what steps and stages that this process will go through.
We need to learn more and listen more to Foreign People and actually "hear what they have to say", and then see them as equal human beings. Because regardless what anyone thinks their Nations leaders also have a population they have to consider, and they can't be made to look like they are weak and without their own national identity.
Things we don't want to belive and don't even want to consider... is things that keep us blinded...
such as, time will reveal the Republican systems support of the weapons selling that kept ISIS going, as another tool to try and make Democratic Presidency look bad, and when Republican got in office, and shut down the weapons flow, suddenly, ISIS is not the main topic. the general public will not figure that out, because this nation has a mass of people who love to be in denial. It was no mystery that after 15+ yrs of Mass weapon selling around the globe, that it was not going to be shut down, just because we had to pull out of Iraq, those weapon sellers made certain that ISIS was fully stocked, until their inventory was dwindled down, because they were not going to loose money. We can expect to see them sell more in other places, because they know without conflict, there is no need for mass weapons sales. We have to be a society that can see through this stuff and call out Congress and Drive Congress to STOP giving the mass contracts to weapons sellers.
This situation will meet resolve, because the powers that be that seek around the world for "CHEAP LABOR" has always sought it out in Countries where the people are disciplined by their government, and N. Korea has a work force, that not only America, but many other nations will go into "lusting mode" to get that cheap labor, just like we did with China over 40+ yrs ago... All this stuff about "America First"... is about America trying to get to the "Cheap Labor First", which means industry won't be coming back to America. The entire supply chain for mass industrial production is within the Asian Continents, and N. Korea is right there where it can flow to them as quickly as agreement can be reached.
MONEY.... when it matters about money, which is always does when it comes to American mentality, this deal will be done, and the papers signed... and we will watch another cycles of Industrial Growth in the Far East...
If we were smart as America people, we'd be DEMANDING that a few Trillion Dollars is made available for Small Business Start Up and Development in America. That's the ONLY WAY that American can create jobs and growth in ALL 50 states....
No one can bring back enough BIG INDUSTRY, to have enough to spread across 50 state and into Rural Area, City Areas and Suburb Areas. When we realize that truth.. then we might begin to think in ways that we can help ourselves and make our Government help us.

(4,835 posts)you said:
But - would we? Not sure about that...you are likely right.
Not talking (more or less) maintains the status quo for the NK people - perpetuating...
Its pretty much signaled that relations were going to improve between SK/NK - for years.
The risk was being left out of the business as NK enters the Global Market.
Maybe Trump's shitty G7 attitude was a ploy shut out the allies - and to take this market for the US...and whoever else is on board...or Russia - or something.
Here's my spin - If it's good! - Obama is behind it all!

(70,711 posts)And, Civic Justice, thank you for your p.o.v., which I share when talking about reasonable leaders dealing in time-honored diplomacy, but norms don't apply with these two.
"chose to talk with each other" - "give Trump credit for coming off the bully and war talk, to meet and talk" - ===================================================Uh, NOPE and NOPE. Anything SHITLER does is a STUNT based on degrading and reversing anything previous office holders (especially OBAMA/CLINTON) have done. He has *NO* higher motives.
As for KIM's participation, it's for his own self-interest. And even if something positive happens, it's going to be INADVERTENT and UNINTENDED.
All the rest of your post is LAUDABLE, noble, and wonderful, and I believe and advocate for all of it. I'm sure I will soon see flamers deliberately dismissing my input here.

(28,270 posts)Course I could be wrong.
Kim the murderous NK dictator could just up and decide to put his life in the hands of the biggest liar on the planet and agree to total nuclear disarmament.
And sleep like a baby at night with wardog John Bolton watching over him peaceful like. Heh. Yeah.
He could trust a man who tore up a solemn treaty with Iran and stabbed his allies in the back just a few days ago.
Yeah that could happen. Uh huh.
