Let's get something straight; the N. Korea deal is nothing short of a surrender

Kim Jong Un ate Trump's lunch, literally and figuratively.

Kim received:

(1). World wide acceptance on a grand scale, normalizing one of the worst despots as a global figure. Kim was someone whose only international contact was "the worm", now has had talks with Xi of China, Moon of S. Korea, Trump of the United States and has planned sit downs with Putin of Russia and Assad of Syria.

(2). Relaxed Sanctions; Regardless of what Trump says, the normalization of North Korea will make it far easier for Russia and China to trade around the sanctions with North Korea. The U.S. sanctions are now worthless. That's not even talking about our European and North American allies having less incentive to cooperate.

(3). Suspension of Military Exercises; the United States and South Korea will unilaterally suspend joint military exercises, which Trump calls "provocative"; in exchange for ????

(4). No North Korean Changes on Domestic Repression; North Korea, which has been likened to the worst and most repressive political state since Nazi Germany in the 1930's and 40's (a 2014 UN Report), makes no guarantees on human rights within their country. In fact, Trump declares that North Korean political prisoners are the "big winners today".

The United States received:

(1). A vague promise of de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula (with no definition of what that means or any time table).

(2). A promise of an accounting of American and allied service personnel from the Korean War.

Thank You Neville Chamberlain. Can you just imagine if a Democratic President agreed to such a one sided document?

I agree that talking is better than fighting. But, at some point, the United States has to stand for something and freedom for all the world's citizens is one of those things. It's funny how Trump loves to talk about repression in Venezuela, Cuba and Iran; But is conveniently silent about Russia, China, Saudi Arabia and now, his new best friend, North Korea.

My take on this agreement is that it is tantamount to a surrender.

You forgot about the human capitol which is the north Korean people.. Very cheap labor to process that precious metal...
China is all over Africa seeing that as the next low labor cost country.. In the '50's it was Japan, then Taiwan, China, India and Vietnam. All regions with cheap labor that got expensive.
I believe Africa and North Korea are the next places to "farm" human capitol.. YMMV

So Kim signs a letter saying he will denuclearize which he has no plans on following and then he gets the sanctions lifted.

China suggests sanctions relief for North Korea after Trump-Kim summit
Shortly after Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un pledged to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, China suggested that sanctions relief could be considered for North Korea.

"China has consistently held that sanctions are not the goal in themselves," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang.

China suggested on Tuesday that sanctions relief could be considered for North Korea, after U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

Trump gave everything to Kim for a business deal where he can build a trump tower there in NK. That's what this was about I suspect, not anything else, and trump is now trying to pull all troops out of that region in SK. That should be a clear indication for SK and Japan he's not going to protect them at all, and has given Kim everything in exchange to run from the region. SK and Japan were sold out by trump for probably his own business interests. not for our country at all. It also could be for cheaper production and manufacturing of his and ivake's products for larger profits for themselves. These people are crooks.

He doesn't study background. He doesn't know terms of negotiations. He insults the G7 because he isn't interested in complex discussions. He kisses Un's ass because he isn't interested in the details of nuclear disarmament. He wants to make a splash but isn't interested in swimming because that takes work. The medium and long term results are devastating on the world stage. He's negotiating the US into a status of a third world country BECAUSE he takes the easy way out... of everything.

Putin just popped another champaign cork. Victory is assured.

28. Not to mention how destabilizing this is, not only to the region
Tue Jun 12, 2018, 11:26 AM

but all around the world.

Ever since World War II Japan has been under the US nuclear "umbrella"--and in return in its constitution swore off nuclear weapons.

I expect that to change real soon. The only rational course for Japan to take now is to develop nukes of its own. I imagine there are some in South Korea reaching the same conclusion. So rather than denuclearization of the region, there's a likelihood that the world will gain two new nuclear powers.

Then there are Taiwan and the Philippines, both of which feel threatened by China. The best way for both nations to deter Chinese aggression is to go nuclear.

But there's more. A unilateral sellout by the US of two of its oldest and closest allies is being noticed all around the world. The foreign minister of Germany has already said that Germany can no longer count on the US as a close ally. A nuclear Germany in response to an increasingly aggressive Russia (in seeming alliance now with the US)? Why not? Given its history Germans are in general wary of militarism, and have only very recently agreed to the use of German troops outside Europe (in Afghanistan). But if presented with an existential threat I have no doubt a nuclear Germany is also in the cards.

All of this could happen with great rapidity. Japan and Germany are probably only months away from being nuclear capable. South Korea might take a little longer.

We are entering an entirely new era of power politics, one far less stable, far more complicated, than anything we've seen since the late 1980s, or maybe even 1945.

This doesn't even take into account the probable onset of a trade war between the US and Canada/EU/maybe China. Not to mention the ever more devastating environmental and (eventually) the political impacts of climate change.

I pity anyone being born into this new world.
