(10,252 posts)I love and respect Pelosi, but honestly? Is this the best that the Dem leadership can do? No mention of curtailing military training exercises WITHOUT even consulting South Korea? No mention of excluding Japan and China? Nothing will ever happen until both China and Japan participate in any peace negotiations. No mention of human rights? No mention of returning kidnapped Japanese? No being appalled by all Trump's complimentary statement about Kim's "great personality."
NO STATING THE OBVIOUS! That this whole embarrassing fiasco is a giant con job? At least when Trump was selling "investment opportunities" in his real estate deals, he had an architectural model and blue prints to show and sell.
Wake up people!

(85,998 posts)...Rep. Pelosi has a long history of standing up for human rights and speaking out against abuses, including against the NK regime.
I think her statement is a good one. I really don't understand the politics of nitpicking our leaders when they step forward like this. Best, I think to not negate these efforts with our concerns (a religion here at DU), but to seek to elevate and, if we see fit, to add our voices to those efforts, as you basically have here.
I'm quite certain Rep. Pelosi will continue to address every aspect of the NK regime's threats, crimes, and abuses in the future.
I realize that her statement has to be diplomatic and polite. I'm just so appalled at what happened in Singapore. I want Trump condemned in a very strong and personal way. Where are the rest of the Dem leadership?

(3,363 posts)I think regardless of what happens here, this is going to be a huge boost to Trump's approval. My guess is Russia planned this to help keep him in power.
It's going to be tough to fight against this. He's too big of a threat to America, but people don't care as long as he makes empty promises about NK.

(85,998 posts)...the world hasn't yet turned on it's face to the degree that we're ready to accept NK as some kind of benign ally.
The most glaring portrait of this shitshow is Trump and his republican supporters cozying up to (another) brutal dictator. The entire party is wrapping itself in treason, and an abdication of everything we've regarded as democratic principle for centuries.
Popularity rising for Trump among his republican rabble is an indictment on their party, not an invitation for the rest of America to join in the depravity.
