(59,592 posts)Anybody think they're going to stop issuing "voter guides" or telling members how to vote in 2018? Yeah, me neither.
So a few delegates walked out on Pence's speech? Not exactly a revolution.

(100,102 posts)And their attitudes towards us. They've got a long way to go to make it up to us. The decades of abuse and stolen elections we've had to put up with aren't just going to disappear overnight. Until that happens, it's all talk and...

(90,793 posts)Carter publicly cut his ties with the Southern Baptists a number of years ago, God bless him. They'll have to do some real soul searching before he comes back.

(4,522 posts)will say ANYTHING to stay in power. Only 3 days ago they cheered as Pence laid on the "Trump is ordained by God" BS at their convention where they also voted NOT to kick out the pastor who is accused of abuse and has told women they should stay with their abusers. Sure there are a few dissenters, who say the GOP is out of bounds but they will soon be brought to heel by the leadership as they have been in the past.

(36,906 posts)Would they cheer that 'Obama was ordained by God'?
Rhetorical question.

(9,273 posts)They have to be inclusive of minorities and yes, start respecting women. Interesting article. Jimmy Carter left the SBC over its treatment of women. Eons ago they ordained women (Carter's sister was a SBC pastor) and then reversed their decision and put women "back in their place." Wondering if that will ever change.

(1,107 posts)I tend to see things in terms of curves. Our culture tends to think in linear terms, if I make effort A than I should expect result B. If I make effort 2A than I expect to see result 2B and so forth, a nice straight line. Almost nothing works that way, anyone who took HS chemistry might remember that electrons don't gradually change their energy state. They stay where they are until enough energy builds up that they "suddenly" make the jump to the next energy level. All the "little" things that are happening are putting "energy" into the soon to arrive demise of Donnie O and his minions.
As you say, this by itself isn't the end all be all but it is an indication of where things are headed. Donnie O's Little House of Horrors may be just what many of the kool aid lite drinkers need to experience to move away from the dark side.

(9,997 posts)To make the saner faithful say "Time to steer to deeper waters and fair (pun intended ) skies!"
A quantum leap of sleaze? They seem to be a narrow-minded lot, but the sleaze buildup seems to have reached a level affecting how they steer.

Yes there is still a long way to go but it is encouraging, especially 40% voting to uninvite Pence to speak.

(12,165 posts)The number of people who identify with a religion has been falling in the U.S. for years. And since so-called christians are in league with Donald Trump, one of the most immoral people in America, people see through their fake piousness. Trump is going to drag them into his cesspool, and it can't happen soon enough.
If you're not religious, it is obvious that baptists, evangelicals and other fundamentalists are as naked as the emperor-without-clothes Trump. All of their tongue clucking and moralizing rings hollow. They are the embodiment of hypocrisy.
And, according to the article, the Southern Baptists have shed more than a million members since 2002. I would wager that the number of people peeling away will not only increase, it will accelerate.

(11,949 posts)They were not political. Had Abortion been mentioned in a sermon the church(over 1000) members would have been agast.
It was the conservative purge of the Seminaries by Paige Patterson and his ilk that started the church down its current past.
Not defending the dogma of the church. I am a free-thinker now. Racist and misogynist many may have been, the convention itself was not political.
And for those of you raised in catholic or mainline Protestant churches, SB Churches are SB churches because they join the convention. They can and do leave at any time. There is no authority telling them what they have to do.
I would guess trump will cause the first split in the convention since the civil war.
