Lazy moocher, reporting in.

At least, that’s how Paul Ryan refers to people like me. I’m kind of the stuff Republican nightmares are made of: senior citizen, iffy health, some disability, dependent on Social Security, Medicare, food and housing assistance. Mr. Ryan, along with Trump and the minions of his evil maladministration, would be pleased to know that their programs are working — for them.

Case in point, I just had to move to a smaller apartment because the housing assistance would not cover any portion of the most recent rent increase. I didn’t move far, just to another building in the same complex; my security deposit transferred, and I didn’t have to rent a truck, so I was saved from having to borrow to meet those expenses. And it’s still within a few minutes of all my doctors. It’s decent, but definitely not the Ritz. Even so, with rents being what they are, my new smaller place rents for more than the larger one I just vacated, and my portion of the rent went up 68%.

Things are going to be quite a bit tighter. It would be nice to be able to look forward to a meaningful COLA next year, but I ain’t holding my breath. At least my neck is loosening up a bit, probably from shaking my head at the realization that all this is what Ben Carson refers to as “incentive.” Now if only I could figure out how to incentivize myself to get younger and healthier...

This will take the shine off the the trump economy that many are praising.

I admit, I nodded in agreement. Housing prices are going through the roof every place, squeezing any affordable ones.

I just read a letter from someone who is trying to bid for a house, but everything is over bidding - all cash.

And, no, this is not California, only the twin cities.

.......

Hang in there, madamesilverspurs - you're not alone. We're a little more stable (I think but not sure) in our own house but it's falling apart and I can't afford all the repairs. In retirement, we're seeing the bills inch up every month, so I don't expect things to improve in our lifetime.

I just hope you find ways to pinch the pennies and have a decent, content life with no new medical issues. That is our hope here for us as well.
