I just got off the phone with my Congresscritter's staffer.
During the course of the call, I made this suggestion:
"I'd like to see my Representative invite ALL of the Democratic Congressional delegation, both houses, from the border states to organize a massive bus tour, with them all participating, and visit the concentration camps together, and the border checkpoints together, and BEAR WITNESS IN PERSON to the atrocities being committed in our name as Americans."
And the staffer said, "That's actually a great idea. May I pass it along to the Representative?"
And I said "Of course you can!"
So what if, when my Critter calls your Critter, they say, "Hey, I heard that idea from a constituent, TOO!"
If enough of them hear it, from enough people, maybe it could happen.
A whole BUSLOAD of Reps and Sens, cameras in hand, staff in tow, demanding, IN PERSON, ALL OF THEM, to see what's being done in our names.
In Texas. In New Mexico. In Arizona. In California.
In person.
Do they have what it takes?

(77 posts)The Parkland students know how to organize much better than any of our representatives. The Democrats shouldve thought about this from day one! They just take it so slow to see everybodys reactions. Instead they should do whats right and not care what anyone thinks.

(20,771 posts)Of course, we need bills to outlaw child torture now, too.
But it has to go way past that, loud and fast, and that's what I tried to convey to the staffers I talked to today.

(5,210 posts)for them to get out in front of the cameras, preferably with great sound bytes or at least great arguments, and a nice, loud voice.
And I'm not just talking about this issue. We've GOT to have some pushback on Trump's most egregious lies, Sarah Huckabee Sanders' lies and insults, and so forth. People are believing "the headlines," whether in print or on broadcast, so we need some headlines as well. Or at least loud counter arguments.
So your comment that they think about proposing legislation is very meaningful to me. I hope we can encourage them to think campaigning and even reality TV. After all, Trump does.
